Cyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver in Newport Beach, CA - Suspected Driver Arrested

A DUI murder charge has been filed in the hit-and-run death of Costa Mesa cyclist Randon (Randy) Cintron, 43, on Jamboree Road in Newport Beach, CA, on the morning of September 11, 2022.
Cintron was an aerospace program manager and avid bicyclist.
The L.A. Times reported that Anaheim resident Adriana Bernal, 36, was reportedly under the influence of an unidentified drug when her sedan struck Cintron while riding his bicycle at 8:30 a.m. Despite efforts of bystanders to assist the victim, he expired at the scene.
Bernal has a prior DUI record. She was arrested on Sunday near Corona del Mar High School, on charges of murder and hit-and-run, detained with over $1 million bail.
Randy Cintron's death is the third fatal bike crash in Orange County this month; fifteen bike crash fatalities have occurred in OC this year.
The horrific Southern California toll of bicycle deaths in 2022 now stands at 64, 21 of which were reportedly hit-and-run crimes.
California reportedly has the highest rate of hit-and-run fatalities in America, according to ValuePenguin, with 17% of the nation's total.

Around 8:30 AM early Sunday morning, a cyclist was struck and killed in the 3000 block of Jamboree Road near Camelback St, in the city of Newport Beach. The suspect's vehicle, described as a white sedan with a cracked windshield, was driving Southbound on Jamboree after the collision. A police helicopter was overhead checking the surrounding areas for the suspect's vehicle following the crash.
The incident is currently under investigation.

UPDATE: (LA TIMES) - A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Newport Beach Sunday morning, and the driver suspected of hitting them was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run. The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on Jamboree Road at Bay View Way, Newport Beach police Lt. Michael Schiavi said. The bicyclist died at the scene, and was later identified as Randon William Cintron, 43, of Costa Mesa, Orange Cunty Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Steinle said. The driver allegedly left without stopping to help the victim, police said. She was detained less than two miles away, near Corona Del Mar High School, and arrested. The identities of the driver and bicyclist, as well as additional information about the crash, were not immediately released.
