An excellent point from blacktone83 further down: When you've finished, DON'T FORGET to top up your master cylinder to the max mark with new DoT4 fluid.

Older video but a new job for me and my C1. New break kit from Ate and all tools are already in the garage. Dry wheater and here we go... Thanks for the tutorial, Cyd!

Another fantastic instructional video. Yours is the only C1 brake video I've seen where the job is done properly - i.e. clamping off the hose and bleeding excess fluid into a jar. Also, nobody else explains where to put the threadlocked bolt. I would add a note about checking the fluid level in the reservoir and making sure it stays above 'MIN'. When I tried to do this in a confined garage, I ran out of room to swing my breaker bar. With no other flat ground available, I had to sheepishly ring a garage (which supposedly has an outstanding reputation) and politely ask if they'd do the job with my parts. They were happy to oblige. I supplied Ceratec, discs, pads and anti-rattle shims... When I collected the car, I was told they had used the Ceratec but usually used copper grease! (Great for damaging rubber if used on the sliders!) I drove the car round the corner and checked under the bonnet. The horror! Brake fluid level above the reservoir's 'MAX' and all over the frame rail and subframe! I was furious, to say the least! Assuming that DOT4 still strips modern paint, I drove straight back to the garage. The apprentice got a *********g and excess fluid was syringed out. Then the spilled fluid was hosed off. I drove straight home and spent another half hour soaping and hosing down the engine bay... NEVER again!

Thanks Tone. Good point, so I've added a pinned comment. And yes brake fluid does dissolve paint.

Having just bought a C1, I found your videos interesting. When I got the the bit where you were apologising for accidently erasing the end of the video on this I was quite amazed as we have spent many a night in the Aquarius Restaurant during our 4 trips to the Canal area! I haven't done any car videos myself, but I have a few videos of the band at the Aquarius and at One for the Road!

Fantastic Video - Thanks very much! Just replaced my C1's disks and pads and your tutorial was invaluable, particularly regarding servicing the slide pins. One thing I wasn't sure about, is the top slide pin head i- it s an odd shape and it seems there is a right and wrong way around for it to go in, i.e. should the smaller side face in towards the hub, or outwards, or does it even matter at all? Thanks again for a great video....

Hello mate, Love your vids man they’ve really inspired me to get handy with my little runner and your vids showcase a lot of basic DIY stuff. I have a Toyota aygo 2005 which shares a lot of parts with the C1 in the video. I’m planning to to change my brake pads and flush my brake fluids. The rotors are in good nick but will be keeping my eye on them. I just have a couple of questions maybe you can help with: 1. Would you suggest I need to bleed/flush the the brakes fluids first before actually changing he pads and if so would you suggest I start from the rear or front? 2. In terms of tools wha size was your your question wrench and breaker bar as I need to purchase them? Also what size diameter was the break fluid hose? 3. Any extra tips in terms of lubrication for pads and other surfaces? Sorry if this was quite lengthy but would be an absolute gold mine if I hear back from ya. Keep the good work up👍🤜🏼

The Aygo, C1 and 107 don't just share parts, they are essentially the same car and are all built on the same line in Poland 1. bleed brakes last and start at rear 2. amzn.to/2J1u6CJ and amzn.to/2J7MrhC and amzn.to/2rYX9eL and amzn.to/2wW4Nw2 3. amzn.to/2KK7SFX and amzn.to/2naTyZ3 HTH 🖖

Thanks for your great video. Done the disc's and pads on my daughter's c1 and it was a simple job 👍. When I removed one of the old pads, it was so corroded that the braking material had delaminated and cracked in half!

NO. Except the subwoofer review video (I'm friends with the Black Strat band) any music in any video is from the KZbin music library and is copyright free. I am a big classic rock fan though.

What type of grease is Ceratec? Will it dry-out on the slide pins & is it safe to use on the rubber slide pin boots? I normally use Red rubber grease on the caliper slide pins.

Great video. I’ve just done this on my 2016 c1. 2000 miles later left break speaks when turning right also juddering when breaking as if the pad is uneven all from left break. Taken it off and is all safe and secure, any ideas in opinion?

Are the slide pins cleaned and freshly lubed? Could the disc be contaminated from an oily fingerprint? Excess play in wheel bearing or other ball joint?

Why shouldn’t I use copper grease on the slide pins or pad carriers ??
@CycloneCyd4 жыл бұрын
Copper grease will dry out naturally, faster with the heat in this area and will subsequently cause siezure of the slide pins, which in turn causes uneven pad wear and reduced braking power.

Why o why are you mucking about with bleed nipple?
@CycloneCyd4 жыл бұрын
That should be obvious. I prefer to show my viewers how to do it properly as much as possible. Pushing pistons back in and allowing fluid to flow 'backwards' up the brake system is simple laziness and bodgery. Doing so is a hangover from decades ago when brake systems were much simpler than they are now.
@argonaut6386 Жыл бұрын
Just to add, taking the top off the brake fluid reservoir can cause the brake fluid to absorb moisture from the air and modern ABS systems sensors can be damaged which is why this way is advised 👍
