When watching at 480p there isn't much difference, but the rock detail alone is insanely better. Long as I can get a consistent 50 to 60 frames per second I prefer higher quality, unless it's an online FPS, in which case I prefer 120-144 fps.

Based on the video. Yes the fps drop is qorth it the ue5 version looks so dynamic and real. Ue4 looks like a scene designed to look like that. Ue5 can 100% look like the ue4 footage with tweaks. Batting 1 static level in 2 engines is a weak argument anyway. Show me the best of each in a side by side

Cause someone lazily ported the game files to UE5 and didn't use UE5 assets or tweak the settings at all. Also probably why the fog is hard to notice in UE5

The difference is UE5 can be completely dynamic and have destructable environments, changing time of day, flashlights, spells, muzzle flash and such with accurate lighting. It can also have footprints in mud/snow that have real lighting and deformationand nanite meshes that can have much higher detail and the ability to deform more realistically. UE4 is baking most of the lighting effects offline, which UE5 can also do, which works for static environments. UE5 is doing it live on every frame. If you want to see a true comparison look up UE5.4 2024 next gen on KZbin and you'll see all the things that can't be done in UE4.

Very bad presentation, contrast and brightness are not matched. How can someone tell if there is a difference in texture quality, fx effects whis that huge difference in brightness. Bad comparison video in my opinion .And D3D 12 works on U 4 ,why use D3D 11 .

The difference is night and day... 🙃 Not quite. Although I thought the lighting quality was a more obvious improvement in the night scene. But a big performance hit. I guess that's the price you pay if you want 'the best'. Diminishing returns and all that. If it stays above 300 FPS or 120, I don't mind - you won't detect the difference, but it illustrates the performance differential.

Devs should just bake light instead of using raytracing. Increase the vram on gpus so they can bake even more light. More fps efficient way to get a better looking game than relying on ray tracing.

You realize this is already done. Plus a heavy baked lighting situation means that the world becomes less dynamic and more static. Ray tracing is much better as it allows you to just dot this in real time. Also VRAM tends to be more connected to textures than RT, which is heavier on the CPU and GPU not VRAM.

@@aquaneon8012 Real time ray tracing is always dynamic because it's real time. Baked lighting is static. It doesn't change. You need to have many bakes for some games to have some sort of dynamic light set up

I like that version 5 has light contact with surfaces and volumetric shadows. But they did something with the fog, so that all the shadows fall heavily into black, creating a picture from 2008. Still, in engine 4, the fog was drawn more beautifully in combination with the light, you could even see the dust. In the fifth engine, you still have to do a lot of tweaking of the fog and post-processing to achieve this effect. At 18:19 you can see how uninteresting the scene has become without the beautiful fog and lighting.

The fog issue is most likely because they didn't use UE5 assets and just ported over UE4 files. Not a great way to compare the two engines though since UE5 isn't limited to static lighting it can have dynamic environments. Look up UE 5.4 2024 next gen to see what UE5 really can do that UE4 can't
