I can't even tell you how happy I am that my favorite videogame ever is getting this remake! I love the wii version but it is amazing how they remade the models of the characters and the lighting! It is 1000% more atmospheric! Those shots of Ruka coming out of the door, and the ghost in front of Choushiro.. I'm just .. WOW I'm more than happy with this game as, it is the last one I ever thought they were going to remake but seeing this... Gosh I hope we get the same treatment for FF1, 2, & 3! Cause it would be just so awesome to be able to play my favourite franchise from 1 to 5 in this graphics all in the same platform, as easy as turning on the system and just play them. No emulators and crazy configurations etc.. WHAT a dream it would be!

they are quite fortunate to have the source code. as long as you have the source code, you wont have to literally remake the game from sctrach.

@@nyotengu i'm pretty much only have the surface knowledge of game developent, so anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. basically source code is a compilation of many code lines and values, also assets used in a game when it was in development phase up until before it was massively reproduced as retail copy that already been encyrypted and you mostly can't reverse engineer the retail copy. without a source code code you won't be able to remaster an old game or export it into newer Game engine and market it as a remake, case example is Silent Hill 2-3 Collection where Konami lost the 'finalized' Source Code from ps2 development. hence they used the buggy 'unfinished' source code backup they had and give it to the team that worked on the remaster. TLOU Part 1 is a good example of developer reusing the source code, they can tweak the AI Behavior and repace texture with higher resolution model.

The only thing left now is to make a proper HD remaster on the first 3 games (wich i really want) or built them from the ground up, wich would be even better but unlikely. Plus the remaster on the second game that they release also on the wii. I like the love that this series is getting with the Maiden of the black water and now this. Hopefully we get a remaster on the original trilogy or a New game wich would be even better.

I have hope that this remasters are a sign that Tecmo is testing the waters to remake the originals and start a new project. Really happy V sold well so we can get more, Fatal Frame/Zero is not very popular but everybody who played the games love them.

Note in 7:04 The lighting in the remake is inconsistent, the face is all bright no matter where the light source came from, i still like the original one, the lighting to the face is on point, like the lantern from above shines only the right upper face and leave half of the face dark, unbeatable, remember brightness isn't always good especially for horror games

I love the game but the only thing that bothers me is the fact that the newer models have like 0% expression/emotions on their faces (Misaki getting scared = Has a poker face in the remaster, Ruka in the thumbnail looks scared asf = Remaster Ruka opening her mouth) and the lighting switching from yellow to blue for some reason.

Its the brown pallete, it's always thr brown palette, I have no idea why they remove it and go for blues with a heavy need for lighting and shadow effects. It takes character away for "realism" or something

2:15 the remaster has Ruka's hair part on the wrong side in the mirror. If it's a reflection it should be flipped like in the Wii version Aside from that error and the facial expressions being slightly muted compared to the OG, this looks fantastic. I'm surprised they actually redid things like the intro cutscene on the boat

This was years ago. I remember downloading the English translation patch from the website to port the files into a USB SD card, then insert into the Nintendo Wii console to play the game with English texts. But the thing is there were bugs of not being able to finished the ghost list or get the Mini ghost games rewards completed either. I love the soundtracks!

Don't know how but these games achieved something that newer ones doesn't. On that old console the characters, skin, atmosphere and the feeling of dread feels so realistic and eerie it almost feels like true story. Now add that magical music and its perfection

I must be crazy - I actually prefer the Wii version's more grainy, cohesive presentation. That weird, bright glow around characters in particular looks outright bad to me. And the changes they made to the models to make them more stylized and generically attractive looking make those much less appealing to me as well. It's like they doubled down on Maiden of Black Waters for no reason whatsoever. Oh well, I'll still get it, if only out of pure nostalgia for the translation that never was.

Oddly enough, I almost think the original looks better. the PS4 version is sharper and more detailed but the whole colour pallette seems to have changed and the darker, lower resolution image on the Wii almost gives it more atmosphere.

In remake, the graphics became clearer, but at the same time lost their charm, too much blue shade is not clear why, somehow it became brighter, there is not enough gloom, for some reason the facial expressions seem worse, added extra effects. The original is still better with its visual, perhaps such outdated graphics by today's standards are worse, but the feeling from it is different.

Only 4 days before discovering this game, I just can't wait anymore. I only played PZ2 on wii and PZ5 but I already love these games, they are among the scariest games I’ve ever played and I can't wait to be jumpscared, to feel constant anguish at each opening of the door and get yelled at because I woke up the neighborhood with a scream of terror once again.

I dunno anything about the game but holy crap this Remake or Remaster looks good. One thing that I like is that, they could have made it ultra realistic but they didn't. It's to have a more interesting Art style of the game. This is what I hope happens if we get a Final Fantasy 9 Remake. Instead of making it ultra Realistic, make it more Cartoony and Disney like. Would work better with the art style of the original game.

I really hope they add the feature to turn off that Auto-Lock control during combat or just get rid of it. Since Lock-On was still an experimental feature back then before they improve it on Fatal Frame 5.

@@Bloodhurl67 You can't turn it off. Or rather, it was a feature that cannot be turned off. So, everytime you enter Finder Mode, once you found the target, it will Auto-Lock on the ghost until you exit/the ghost shift position. But it would be like that again once you located the ghost.

@@Bloodhurl67 All Fatal Frame, even the original trilogy did have "Search" ability that served almost the exact function, but at least it was an ability that required Spirit Energy/Orbs. And in 5, it was a present function from the start you could use by pressing a button when you feel like it. Unlike 4, which you cannot turn off and kinda defeat the purpose of photographing a ghost

Overall, it's a huge improvement graphically, but I am not digging the overly prettified faces. Even the ghosts seem to look like porcelain dolls, and it's not scary. 😅

The Wii edition had brown overlays to the game while the remaster on pC and consoles has been given that blue tone to make it more horrors. I dont mind this as I'm a fan of the series and I've played the Wii edition of this

Which theme/music is this? Thanks for the comparisons! I like the new lighting and color palette (Dark Blue). It seems it's similar to Maiden of Black Water's artstyle which I believe they are trying to have the series a more consistent artstyle. I was able to remove the grain via Hex Edit in Maiden of Black Water (Steam) and it looks so much better without it. I understand why they did the grain (To give it the "old" feeling), but it's obvious they've used it due to limitations of the hardware. I really hope Fatal Frame 1-3 will get ports as well! FF2 already had a Remake on Wii (Same camera angle as Mast of the Lunar and Maiden of Black Water; Over the Shoulder View). I don't mind if FF1 and FF3 getting a remake with the over the shoulder view of those games as well!

I honestly prefer the old yellowish grainy filter the original 2008 version had, it made sense because the game's theme is surrounded by eclipses = yellowish lights being taken over by something dark. And let's bffr the somber blue filter and color palette should only be for Fatal Frame 3 because it makes the most sense for that game.

El problema es el cambio en la paleta de colores, pasamos de un tono amarillo pálido y apagado a tener un excesivo azul brillante. El juego original se siente en verdad opresivo con su atmósfera aterradora y su énfasis en las sombras corporales y faciales (algo que la nueva versión omitió por completo). No es por ser fanboy, pero estos dos cambios con respecto a la versión original, hacen que la atmósfera de la nueva versión pareza más la de un cuento de hadas nocturno que no la propia de un juego de survival horror, pues hasta los fantasmas tienen ahora brillo, cosa totalmente innecesaria...

Además, acabo de repasar nuevamente la comparativa y acabo de percatarme de otro detalle que no habia visto antes: La nueva versión se ve muy limpia (no hablando en temas de color como ya mencioné, sino de texturas), sí ves las paredes y los objetos, la versión de Wii da la sensación de antiguedad (locativamente hablando, no a nivel gráfico, en cuyo caso si es obviamente inferior), pues todo tiene un aspecto más "sucio", incluso las paredes se ven más agrietadas y antiguas. La nueva versión no tiene nada de esto, es tan limpia en su estetica y, sumado a su paleta de colores azul y su exceso de brillo en personajes, que, como repito, parece más un cuento de hadas que no un survival. Lastima, mucho potencial desperdiciado...

The PS4 definately has better graphics but the issue is the filters, less texture, more clarity and too much brightness in bluish white, which makea it look less scary. Even maiden of black water is just the same and isn't creepy or scary like FF2 n FF3.

Sadly the original was exclusive to Japan only. I think there’s a fan translation patch. I forget how to get it to work. Emulation is the easiest way. But I’m so glad we’re finally getting an official translated western release so I’ll wait for that personally. I’ve waited forever to play this one. I can wait a little longer 😅.

2:00 remaster yet failed clothes physics with 2008 technology :'( Plus it's kinda male gazer and not horror anymore. But the plus side is the 'blooming face' transition getting smoother ngl.

I saw on the wii version online that there's a Zero suit samus and Luigi costume. But I'm guessing for the Switch version they won't have that. Maiden of Black Water for Wii u had the zero suit samus and zelda (Hyrule Warriors version) costumes but didn't bring it back for the Switch version. Got treated with new non-nintendo costumes instead like the rest of the other consoles.

It's better with the originals, more sexys 😉🤤😆 The American versions of FF2 Wii edition and maiden of the black water was censored 😑 I guess this one are gonna be censored too because the extra costumes on Wii are too "explicit" 🤤 I have the Japan version disc
