Yes, I agree. Cyd is amazing in this video. I don't understand why MGM would terminate her contract shortly after this film's release, after she had been with the studio for 14 years. Even she did not understand it either as her films according to her never lost money.

Cyd Charisse. Now THIS was a lady who danced well into her 60's, performed in roles that didn't require the use of her great talent, and she remained hot well into her 80's. So sad to lose her last year. It's a shame talent and substance such as this don't exist today!

At 0:41 - 0:43 you can just see how incredible Cyd's legs truly are. Long, sleek and shapeful. Not skinny and stick like nor overly developed and too muscly. Even her knee caps and perfect. But it was what she could do with these legs that amazed audiences. Her spins, extensions and turns were on point. She moved like a cat and could be sexy and classy at the same time. Watching Cyd in motion was a joy and although she is no longer with us, these clips are a standing testament to her talents!

Cyd was just beautiful! thank God we can see and appreciate her through film! I had the opportunity to meet her briefly in the early 80's and she was so unassuming and sweet. She asked me if i was a dancer, and I said, "well, sort of!" In my eyes, I was not a dancer compared to her!!!!

Cyd was an amazing dancer. She put all of her passion into her dance, somehow that passion was not convincing when it came to her acting abilities. She was good enough actress, but somehow her acting paled to her dancing. Cyd found the going tough in movies after her MGM contract was terminated as she wasn't perceived as an actress but a dancer.

Beauty, grace, and true joy while dancing!!!!! Seriously one of my all time favorite dancers. I can watch this over and over. There was a fabulous edit with Cyd clips set to that Lita Ford song Blueberry, but it got taken down unfortunately. It really showed how Cyd's dancing fit even w heavy metal music.

I am amazed by the drop to the floor at 0:36. I'm familiar with the "Turkish drops" that bellydancers do, but there is no "drop" here. It is more like she just glides smoothly to the floor. That's got to take some seriously strong leg muscles.

Yes, this film did showcase Cyd with a great dramatic performance. However, apparently it wasn't good enough for MGM executives. Cyd states in her book that MGM terminated her contract after this film's release. She had been with MGM for 14 years and she was shocked by this surprise termination of her contract.

She was the best dancer ever, I even dare say she was better than Fred Astaire who once said "when you've danced with Charisse you stay danced with". I'd compare her to Gene Kelly, both were dancers of "passion", they had stamina, strength, good strong legs. Astaire was a dancer of "good techniques". Charisse was remarkable as she was both a dancer with physical strength and a dancer with good techniques. This video doesn't do Cyd's talent justice, but she is very charming in this scene.

Aundrea - much as I love Cyd and all she couldn't sing a lick. Although probably not quite tone deaf she did have to be dubbed in almost all her movies (most famously by india Adams in The Bandwagon). But more generally yep - it would have been quite nice for instance to see a modicum of competence in the dire La La Land.
