Does the model work when we give *INITIAL_VELOCITY instead of the *INITIAL_VELOCITY_RIGID_BODY ? In my case it is not working.

It's timestep u can caluculate this By Courant formulae. Least element length divide by speed of sound of material.check below formulae least element length/√youngsmodulus/density.

While defining joints for ease of assembly some parts we will make it rigid if we make rigid we cannot connect nodal rigid bodies directly.instead of lenthy process we make it extra node set and define joints. If u want deformable bodies plz ref my first video revolute joint
