Hi, and thanks for watching. Yes, you can re-pot in a slightly larger pot and plant the rootball against the back of the pot so there is room for plant bulbs to spread towards the front of the pot.

Hi Jim, Here are detailed instructions for you: Dividing a dense root mass of cymbidium orchids is an important step in promoting healthy growth and flowering. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it: Materials You'll Need: Cymbidium orchid with dense root mass Clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears Clean, preferably sterile, cutting tool (e.g., blade or knife) Orchid pot(s) with fresh orchid mix or medium Labels (optional) Watering can or misting bottle Steps: Choose the Right Time: The best time to divide a cymbidium orchid is after it has finished flowering and enters its dormant phase. This usually occurs in late winter or early spring. Dividing during this period allows the plant to recover before its next growth and flowering cycle. Prepare the Workspace: Find a clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated workspace. Lay out all your materials for easy access. Remove Orchid from Pot: Gently remove the cymbidium orchid from its pot. If the orchid is particularly tightly rooted, you may need to carefully loosen the root ball using your hands or a tool like a small wooden stick. Inspect the Root Mass: Examine the root mass. If it's a dense tangle, it's time to divide. Look for natural separations or areas where the plant has naturally grown into distinct sections. Attention: Any Northern US or Canadian orchid lovers... we _MUST_ invest in grow lights for our orchids. _Especially,_ for over the winter months. We don't get enough sunshine for ourselves! How do we expect our lil babies to thrive in such darkness? They can't. Just go to your local hardware store such as 'Kent' or 'Home Depot'. Grab a simple housing that comes _with_ the bulb. This absolutely WILL mean the difference between life & death for your orchids.

The leaves of the cymbidium are fan-shaped. Turn the plant around and you will see that the leaves have a flatter back side.

Really hope she sees your comment & makes a few videos on this topic. Personally, I have found that _Calcium_ on top of their regular fertilizer is _so massively important!_ It has something to do with cell structure? Plus, we should be cycling fertilizer for each of the 4 seasons. Spring, summer, fall & winter should vary slightly, BUT _always_ add extra calcium! I've completely destroyed several orchids in my care _never_ knowing this. Grow lights & calcium changed my orchids lives... they are thriving in my _Canadian_ home! However, if you need _immediate_ help &/or answers, for an orchid that's in distress or is _really_ struggling, in your care? Let me know & I'll hook you up with, "emergency orchid care help" all right here ON KZbin. I don't wanna send you to a different YT channel, from her comment section here. Hi @MarshaBalderrama. Thanks for watching and for your question. There are many product options for fertilizing Cymbidium orchids which include liquid fertilizers and slow-release pellets. There are also single formula fertilizers such as bone meal which provides lots of nitrogen needed during the early active growth phase in spring. Later in summer when it is time to set buds for flowers, the cymbidium can benefit from a fertilizer that has more phosphorus and potassium than nitrogen. To keep it simple you may want to buy a specialized "orchid fertilizer" such as the "Grow More" brand. Grow More offers a formula called "Growth Formula 30-10-10" to use spring through summer and switch to their "Bloom Formula 6-30-30" at the end of summer to promote lots of flowers. Follow the instructions and ALWAYS water your cymbidiums well before applying fertilizer. You can feed your cymbidiums on a monthly basis or divide the monthly dose by 4 and apply a weakened formula every week at watering time, instead.

As far as calcium is concerned, it is an important macronutrient (along with magnesium) that supports the building of cellular walls and tissue. Many people have calcium supplied in their tap water and it is often included in therapeutic doses in orchid fertilizer formulas. Thanks for respecting my channel.
