I was told my Mom was sent home for hospice and had a few weeks at best. I was 1200 miles away but decided to drive as I was not leaving until she had passed. I was heading north on I-75 in lower Michigan at 3 AM, cruise control set at 85. Just me, the full moon hanging off my left shoulder keeping me company on that dark empty highway. The stereo was blaring to keep my mind alert as it had already been 14 hours in a 22 hour trip. Then I hear this song come on the radio as I too was driving all night to see my Mom. It was in the next day while I was still driving and just 10 minutes away when my Dad called and said Mom just passed. I never got to say good bye. I will always have this song to remind me of my Mom. I miss you Mom. Thank you Cyndi.

Not at all... i think Cyndi knocked it out of the park, her voice as we never heard it, the edgy production and the video since it was 1989... it was very “Cyndi” - Celine’s well, it was supposed to serve a different purpose for Chrysler hence the spin of eurodisco. To use a Newfoundland colloquialism "She can belt it out of her!" :) I love the power in her voice. And the musical arrangements are great too. I listened to Celine Dion's "interpretation" of this song and I couldn't listen to it all the way through. She was doing her own take but just mangled it somehow. :) I never appreciated Cyndi Lauper's true talent until later on. I realize she's one of my favorites. Blows Madonna, Britney, etc out of the water!

From Wiki: "'I Drove All Night' is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992. Cyndi Lauper recorded the song and released it as a single for her A Night to Remember album. Her version became a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989."

I love Cyndi Lauper's version of this song. You can feel how determined she is to get to the man that she loves. I saw her in concert in Germany back in 1985 or 1986, and she told a lame ass joke, but you still had to laugh at it, and she gave a very powerful performance. I have loved her music ever since she sang Girls Just Want To Have Fun, and my friends and I would play it, and sing to it, as we got ready to go out. I think we wore that song out. LOL 😆

Each interpretation of the song fits the artist and I enjoy listening to each of them. No favorites here unless you ask in the moment and it will be based on my mood: feeling like dancing and belting out lyrics- Celine, feeling like some good modern rock and some fantastic rocker vocals - Cyndi , but for the combo of soulful rock and a banging beat, it’s Roy all the way.

I cant believe Im 50 years old, have seen this literally hundreds of times over 34 years (its one of my favorites), and I think I just now understood the story in the video: She never made it. There was an accident (with the wrecked white car?) and now shes haunting that lonely stretch of desert road in her Chevy coupe and lingering in his apartment near the Vegas strip. She always sees it as she imagined with him sleeping, waiting for her. Shes still driving. Dying to get to him. All night. Forever.

Also “I was dreaming while I drove” She fell asleep on the wheel while driving all night, dreaming about her lover. “This fever for you is just burning me up inside” I think this is the instant her car crashes, the climax of her fantasy, burning for her lover in her dream while burning in real life from the car crash.
