Out of all the Internet personalities to have contributed to gaming discourse, none has ever resonated with me the way TotalBiscuit did. Whenever my friends try to shove trailers or previews of any upcoming releases, I feel like a jackass or a weirdo for thinking, "yeah, it's gonna be good, now relax." TB has sincerely cared for the art form behind video games, rather than the bells and whistles of the marketing. One thing that me and TB seem to have had in common is we both have things to do outside of games (despite caring for games a great deal), which is a vibe I never get out of most gaming KZbinrs. So many people telling me I *should* be excited for this or that, or else I'm not a 'real gamer' or something. The truth is, most people who obsess over new gaming releases don't have many hobbies besides new gaming releases; and you don't want the next best thing to turn out as anything less than what the trailer told you. TotalBiscuit, on the other hand, could make a 30 minute long video about a game from the year 2000 and why it's still riveting to this day... or a more niche title like Aztez or Battle Chasers: Nightwar and explain to the best of his ability what makes these games stand out. (I was intrigued by the former due to its Mesoamerican theme and the latter due to the striking art style). Most every other KZbinr just talks about the same 4-5 most popular games and gives you the most interchangeable of opinions, without ever providing the insight that was front and center in John's videos. I know we all make fun of TB's obsession with FOV sliders, FPS and option menus and maybe as a PC person myself I'm biased, but these things matter a lot to me. The man was also remarkably critical of even the things he enjoyed, firmly distanced between the game he reviewed and his own integrity. I won't be pointing any fingers here but I think everyone knows what/who I mean. Thank you for everything, John. We'll keep the torch lit as best as we can.

@@ActuallyReid consider how many times people worked themselves into a froth over this game with no thanks to games media he'd probably facepalm; its like scientific studies when the media doesn't or just outright ignores the findings to just make a piece that gets lots of views/clicks/reads/etc. I remember not following CP2077 at all and when it came out I was pretty happy with the product like legit no issues with what I got. Sure there was the odd funny bug like a floating Johnny cig during a cutscene or the roundabout of car crashes on a piece of terrain that was sticking out which was honestly funny as hell but nothing like what people were actually talking about. Having played Bethesda games for years it was quite polished in comparison lol

So relevent even today as media outlets along with KZbinrs like Luke Stephens, Skill Up and Downward thrust hyped up watchdogs legion after they previewed it. Then the game comes out and they're like meh, it's alright. But too late to cancel the preorders resulting from the unwarranted hype they created

Damn, even back in 2014 he knew or rather had a suspicion that something bad was boiling. Part of me is content that he didn't get to witness the sh*t-shows that were Warcraft Reforged, Fallout 76, Cyberpunk 2077 etc. Else he'd be spinning in his grave mad at the media for letting it happen.

'He also goes on to say that of course the game will not feature microtransactions whatsoever, which nobody actually expected it to in the first place because y'know it's a PC game and not designed for mobile devices' Hahahaha holy shit this video certainly shows its age. If only things were still like that today.

Triple A corruption has actually been a problem since at least the 90s. The only real difference now is that microtransactions and lootboxes have made it so incontrovertibly obvious, that those of us who have always pointed it out, can't credibly be called schizophrenic conspiracy theorists any more.
