This song was literally such a powerful song, not only her singing but the lyrics and meaning of the song, the fact that thousands and thousands of slaves were fleeing for their lifes from the south to that "separating line" in the north, just to live normal safer lifes just breaks my heart 😢.

Its gospel because its based on "Slave Hymns"... singing is how slaves communicated with each other. Its so much more than a song. She is really someone who embodied Harriet

Oh dear I'm sorry but it's so funny to see you annoyed at the popularity of belting :D but I understand what you mean ;) I feel like shows like The Voice and the likes promoted the idea that if you don't belt, you don't sing well. They always wait for the belting and if it doesn't come then they don't press the button (more or less). Recently Billie Eilish reminded us that you don't need it ;)

OMG! How did I not see this Elssa? 😂😂😂😂 It really is a big issue and the whole "big votes get votes" thing is 100% true! Such a shame because you just do not need to belt ALL THE TIME! Although it is important to do so at some points in the music I think the goal detracts from the meaning of the song and why we need to belt. Belt is the loudest form of singing and should be reserved for the highest emotional point of the song and not just blasting our ear drums out. And this is coming from me.... a prolific and happy belter. I love to sing the shit out of songs, but it just isn't necessary. It destroys the storytelling.
