A truly inspiring pianist for this generation. A model of interpretation for me. BRAVO KATSARIS T'ES LE MEILLEUR!
@TomBarrister5 жыл бұрын
This is from October 17, 1999, when Mr. Katsaris would have been 48. It was a concert in memory of the 150th anniversary of the death of Chopin. In addition to this sonata, Maestro Katsaris also performed several other Chopin works, plus three encores. Mr. Katsaris has his own unique way of interpreting compositions, a refreshing change from many the usual performances one hears nowadays from performers. It definitely impressed the audience at Carnegie, which is arguably the toughest audience in the world to please.

In this I heard hidden melodies and ornaments that other pianists didn't bring out! Probably they are not even aware of those! Really great interpretation!

While I am electrified by Katsaris' vigour I send my thoughts to Stephan Askenase, who recorded this for Deutsche Grammophone back in the 50'ies or thereabout, with a tough, cool rhythm as if some force was drawing the main theme towards the final flurrish of fioritura. I remember well that Askenase was in a studio and probably would re-record many times. Askenase, Stephan. Where was he ... he also recorded other of the Chopin besties.

His Chopin 3rd is on here now. An unusual mixture of almost plodding through but with some beautiful rubatos.
