@22poopoo4 жыл бұрын
@Alleyup1994USA Yes but Britain did decide to segregate schools, councils etc along community lines based on religion or language (both can be blurred) reinforced the differences and led so 'turkish' and 'greek' national identities when it was never that clear, many just feel Cypriot fore-mostly and I suspect that would have been always most dominant identity among most groups if the British attitude wasn't to try and fit people neatly into boxes. Of course that's not the only reason. What what how to you categorise a Turkish speaker who is mostly Christian orthodox? Or a 'Turkish' muslim who's primary language is Cypriot Greek, these were quite common at one time. I'm half English half Greek-Cypriot so I'm not likely heavily biased either way. Britain did great things in Cyprus in terms of infrastructure, reforestation etc, but we did have the Victorian attitude still of 'This is a Christian, so European, so Greek' and I don't believe it was divide and conquer is any conscious way, but that mentality must have played into it, as an subconscious driver. That was just a product of the time. We can't be chronocentric and judge for instance the British empire morally...But understanding Britain's role in community divisions can help unite Cypriots. Division and neat boxes of people were encouraged.

@Russell Richards Russell Richards Even if Greeks are anti-semitic, what makes allies are mutual interests. Conflicting interests make enemies, mutual interests make allies. Your arguments about Greece being closer to the middle east than Europe are absolute bullshit and you know it. As for the Macedonians not being Greek I have a question for you. Who ordered for the Rosetta stone to be constracted? and what languages where writen on it? It's one thing to call your country Macedonia because of your geographical location, but it's a whole lot of shit to claim to be the desendant of Alexander the Great.

@Russell Richards We know how cleansing has worked (and still works) pretty well in civilized Western Europe, with Slavic dialects in Germany, Germanic dialects in Slavic speaking countries, Basque in France, Gaelic in England, Catalan in Spain and so on... We also know how many Greeks have been left in Albania, Bulgaria and Turkey and the reasons behind their disappearance. It is good when others do it and we can be silent, it is bad when Greeks do it and we must stand up and shout. Great logic. By the way, when it comes to history, learning about the peculiarities of each area and reading the original sources from all sides (e.g. regarding the population in Macedonia; the Arvanitai) and not modern propaganda websites is always a good idea.

@Russell Richards Culturaly absolutly no. Greeks by their christian customs and traditions alone are closer to europe. As a matter of fact it is more fair to say that Europe is closer to Greece and not the other way around. Ethncly i agree, as Greeks and Middle eastern people have been intermarring for millenials. Historicly? Before the Islamic Conquest? Sure! Syrians and Egyptians identified themselves as Greeks (Romans), they spoke Greek and they were subjects of the Roman emperors. But after the Islamic conquest absolutly No. Geographicaly? Well, geography is not something to debate about. It's there and it's static. The greek mainland is entirly with in Europe. You could argue that some of the island could be considered Asia and personally id agree. But considering that the separation of Europe and Asia is a man made idea your argument dosnt hold much ground. Also if you are gonna be calling Greece middle eastern then you better start calling Hungary central Asian as all the argument you made (Geography being the exception) apply to Hungary also.

Ail kopek-You have stated left wing soysuz kopek and/or ignoramus rambing-no facts. There is no such thing as Cypriot-ethnically or culturally. My family are 100% Turkish cypriot and all that means is that we are Turks from cyprus. In fact the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. If you had a little inkling of a brain you would realize that the greek side will not accept Turkish Guarantees rights and Turkey will never give it up since if it lost this it would effectively be surrounded by the EU. It will never happen. My family, and the majority of Turkish cypriots, are eternally grateful to Turkey for saving them. But I have an educated family that explains history. Not the sheep like okuz parents or the traitor like left wing that produce extremely stupid offspring like you. The only reason, in the last referendum, most Turkish cypriots said yes to the annan plan was the preservation of the TRNC, political equality and Turkish guarantees. Turkey gave its blessing. But 99% would never give up these principles. I have lived in London most of my life and never met one sincere greek cypriot. They play on socialist left wing traitors or just idiots like you (either one). The traitor left wingers and I have a few in my family are very loud and vocal. But when it comes to gatherings there is hardly anyone there and right wing or pro-TRNC state parties always win the majority. This speaks volumes but then its clear to me. Once again, the natural inclinations of both sides means that there will never be an agreement. Even an agreement is not complete unification but two states with equal rights. Together with Turkish Guarantees, this will never be accepted by the south. Once again, for the dense, I am a Turkish Cypriot, my family in fact originated from the pseudo-greek side before the exchange. If you want to improve from cattle level, in future emphasize that you are displaying an opinion and not a fact when at a 'discussion' stage. I consider myself British first and foremost, and with no family left in Cyprus, don’t really have a dog in the race, but in my humble opinion how utterly horrendous it would be if Turkey annexed (as they want to) North Cyprus. Turkish Cypriot identity is so unique and different to mainland Turks, and although many Turkish Cypriots understandably appreciate Turkey’s intervention as guarantors of the original constitution, on the other hand they have illegally occupied half the island for far longer than they were allowed and kept the Turkish Cypriot community in the dark ages. It’s a deep personal regret of mine that the Greek Cypriots voted ‘no’ on the Annan Plan, but I appreciate it’s very complicated on so many levels. I really hope I will live to see reunification one day, however unrealistic that feels, and am so sad my dad couldn’t see it in his life time. @DutchTurkish8 жыл бұрын
Turkey has no intention to annex it, otherwise it would already have happened. If the negotiations also fail even with the leftist president Akinci, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should push for an international recognition world wide. If that fails also for 5 - 10 year, becoming part of Turkey is like the only option, for these people to have normal international relations. Apparently Greek Cypriot leaders have unrealistic demands, even Akinci is pessimistic about it. Akinci the one who was very optimistic for a 2 state solution on Cyprus also lost hope for a solution.

Then we do NOT want Turks in Cyprus. We want Cypriots. People who will put Cyprus' benefits over any other country, may that be Turkey or Greece. But hell, I don't want to be neighbors with someone who celebrates the massacre of my people every July. To be fair, the Cypriot identity is pretty new. Back then it was the Turks and the Greeks. Then the independence happened(for which let's be honest, T/C didn't help one bit). Then all of a sudden everyone was a Cypriot with a new flag and a new citizenship. Then of course it all went to hell. Let's skip that part. At the moment, statistically speaking, the "Cypriot" identity is thriving in free Cyprus(sorry, just how it is). Not so much in the occupied part. We accept that we are Greeks, it's part of culture, our DNA but we are Cypriots first(the majority).Greece is a third party to us, exceptional relations, sister country. And then there's the occupied side still wondering if Turkey should annex Cyprus. Once both parties put Cyprus first, then there's a possibility for a solution. One thing is for sure. There cannot be a solution with a foreign army in Cyprus. Not a single Greek Cypriot would accept that. A solution would benefit both countries and to be fair, it would benefit the northern part more.

Before 1600 C.E. WASN’T NOT EVEN ONE TURK IN THE CYPRUS. Cyprus been Greek from 1000 years B.C. World book Encyclopaedia What year BCE Greeks colonise Cyprus Greek colonization of Cyprus began in the 13th to 11th centuries BCE. * Mycenaean-Achaean Greeks were the first to arrive on the island during this period. This early Greek presence significantly shaped the cultural and linguistic landscape of Cyprus.

I don't think anyone should annex anything. The island should remain divided along religious/ethnic lines as it is now however the Turkish Cypriot state in the north and the Greek Cypriot state in the south should both recognize one another politically, acknowledge that each people has a unique right to exist on the island and to cultivate and preserve their own national identities separately. I do not believe that thrusting these two people back together in some pie-in-the-sky attempt at reunification will help anything because fundamentally they have two very different, perhaps irreconcilable visions about what they want their respective societies to look like. The exact position of the border between north and south should be carefully negotiated and then clearly demarcated to avoid confusion. The UN should then be thinking about withdrawal. Buffer zone territory reincorporated into the respective states, again following careful negotiations. And lastly, but possibly most controversially, Turks who fled from the South and Greeks who fled from the North in 1974 should be realistic and give up on their ambitions to return to their former homes in lost territories. A bitter pill to swallow maybe, but this whole "right of return" is such an insurmountable sticking point in so many other conflicts e.g Israel-Palestine, India-Pakistan - it's just not worth it. Move on. Settle in the new territory, give up on the irredentism.

If Turkey is allowed to annex N. Cyprus will Turkey eventually demand the rest of the island? Erdogan was claiming that the portions of Thrace in Greece and Bulgaria belongs to Turkey but of course this won't happen without creating an international incident.

Who were the first to recommend the formation of two separate States recently? Who celebrates every year the Turkish invasion in 1974 and the subsequent division of the island? Who really is responsible for the very bad economic state of the Northern part of Cyprus? The fact that the Greek-Cypriots rejected the Anan plan does not mean they didn't want the reuinification. They just didn't want reunification under THOSE terms. If you disagree I am sure you haven't even read the Anan plan. Let me ask another question. Turkish Cypriots are free to live and work in the Southern part, why is it not possible for Greek Cypriots to live and work in the Northen part? Crimes were committed by BOTH sides in the past, however its 2021 now and many people across the island think differently now and would like a reunification. Of course the only part which dislikes this idea is TURKEY as they will lose their country house in the Eastern Mediteranean.

The only reason why Turkey is not minding it's own business and interfering with Cyprus is because Greece wasn't minding it's own business and were trying to occupy Cyprus for themselves. You are Greek Panos, don't act like you don't know what Enosis is. Turks and Greeks took turn killing each other, they weren't even given a chance to live together in peace, because guess who wanted to own a presence in the island? The UK. Englishmen came to the island, provoked both populations into slaughtering each other, and now that the country is divided between Cyprus and an unrecognised entity, they get to keep their military bases. Russians did the same with Armenians, English and French did the same with Arabs and Kurds.

Ottomans came to Cyprus first and get the all Cyprus but Ottomans was very weak and need to get help and Ottomans asked to England and they said you will rent the Cyprus to us Ottomans must accept until they decline the rent the Russia will go and get the all Ottoman places and after some time England said England is getting Cyprus but there was Turks still in there let’s skip here to and at the WW2 England said to Greece If you want I can give you the Cyprus but there was a war inside the Greece and they didn’t accept it but after some time Greece people wanted help from Ottomans and get the most of the Greece people but they made a thing that name is ENOSIS and All Türk people hate from it because enosis means killing all the Turks in Cyprus and anext the Cyprus to Greece at least the Turkey need to get here because Greece don’t have any rights on Cyprus

FR if greeks cypriots keep on thinking that the island is greek as a whole then i hope they realize nothing will change. both parties have to stop thinking like turkey or greece and think as CYPRUS as a whole, they need to realize that it will continue to be a mess if they stop thinking like that and if they want cyprus to be greek, go back to greece or if the whole island is turkish, then go to turkey

3:00 such ignorance is what scares me about the north side. that man believes that its cypriots goverment fault for the bad quality of life in the north. how is the goverment going to do anything with the presence of the turkish army there you cant blame others for what turky has caused you which is complete isolation. unite the island and you will see difference but first sort out your stance and concept of being a member of cyprus. acceptance is key for both sides look to the present not the past

Which govt ? The Nord govt ? How you want the Nord govt to do anything whithout nobody except Turkey recognize them ? They cannot attract foreign found, tourist, or even let their citizen voyage in other country. The problem is not Turkey, the probleme is the Nord govt is even not recongize like a state. If the negociation fail either the world must recognize Nort Cyprus, or Turkey's shoud annexe. Because if not fair for Turkey to send money year after years and no solution is found.

annex with turkey is not fair for the people in the south. wanting to get united with another country is what caused the war to happen. whats best for both sides is compromising to the situation and completly accepting each other.i personaly would love to live in the north side just to see your culture and meet some different people. i dont see why we cant unite. the only problem will be the extremists that will be present from sides lets just hope that it wont come to fighting each other again
@andreaskasiotis33988 жыл бұрын
annex is actually never going to happen because turkey wants cyprus to send all of the natural resources found in isreals egypt and cyprus waters through turkey and not greece, which is probably why turkey will support reunification of the island.

Now %67 of Cyprus is Greeks and %33 of Cyprus is Turkish.It is enough land for Turks and Greeks to live next to each other in peace.We will be independent or annex with Turkey !
