Cyrill presents his idea of implementing a resource-saving feature in Kubernetes, similar to Heroku's "sleep" mode for idle dynos. Current approaches don't meet all desired criteria: being workload agnostic, fast, and smart enough not to sleep while in use. The talk will review the problem, existing solutions, and introduce Cyrill's approach, which involves a Kubernetes runtime that snapshots entire containers to disk when idle and quickly restores them when a request arrives.
