I think Richard is really a fair speaker. Although he is affected by the close of LinkedIn in China, he doesn't blame the Chinese government. Instead, he points out the truth that China is making lots of new regulations to maintain the order in the cyber world. The introduction of new regulations makes the overhead cost to run internet business in China rising up and so LinkedIn moves out of China due to business decisions. We realize that new regulations mean higher operational cost. However, when we look at the similar scenario in prevention of pandemic, China does the same thing. We make a high standard of regulations to reduce the movement of people in order to contain Covid. Such regulations make Chinese become the most successful large economy that can keep her economic activities running normally and preventing the spread of virus at the same time. I think in the field of internet, China can also set a new standard for the World as a significant reference.

The MAIN reason why the USA western media falsely accuses CHINA of mistreating Uyghur Muslims is because they want to prevent the 1.6 Billion Chinese worldwide and 2.0 Billion Muslims from working together. Both these groups have been discriminated by USA and the WEST for decades and are more likely to work together. Chinese & Muslim nations working together will lead to US losing its dominance of the world. Plus this will gain Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and African support too including the rest of the world such as Latin America.

I think you guys are missing something here. Effectively Microsoft is merely ending support for a dedicated Chinese version of the site, it's just that there will no longer be a dedicated full-scale team supporting it because it's not worth it for them. You should mention that anyone will still be able to visit and use the global LinkedIn network from within China and all existing Chinese profiles will stay. So at the end of the day, this makes virtually no difference for the existing LinkedIn users in China, because like you said most of them know English already.

And another important point was that google failed to capture a viable market share in China as by the time it left China, it had only 1% of China's market share. which book? you have to acknowledge that it's not only porn sites that google links to that upsets the Chinese censors. google shut down its Chinese operations after it discovered a cyberattack from within the country that targeted it and dozens of companies. while investigating the attack, Google found that the Gmail accounts of a number of Chinese human-rights activists had been hacked. the 2010 attacks prompted the company to reverse course. Instead of complying with government requests to filter its search results, Google directed all of its Chinese traffic to the uncensored Hong Kong version of its search engine, a move that left the company vulnerable to being completely shut down in China. Indeed, Google’s services became inaccessible to most Chinese users within months.

Thanks Cyrus & Richard for another enlightening & informative show. In this tumultuous era, the world needs more people like you guys that foster communication & collaboration between the US & China. One of the greatest achievement of China (probably part of their cultural heritage) is that they understood that trade encourages the very values you try to promote which are communication = understanding = collaboration. It all boils down to the simple concept that one is unlikeky to fight his trading partner. It worked for the US & China for the last 50 years until politics spoiled it all. While China was investing trillions to build their country infrastructure, enhancing their population standard of living & well-being in the process, the US chose to pour trillions in useless wars at the expense of their citizens standard of living & well-being. The resulting neglect to the US infrastures and the Americans frustration over disappearing jobs gave rise to populism that culminated in Trump's election who used China as scapegoat to score political points. Unfortumately, the Biden administration because of the polarisation of the electorate, cannot appears to look weak and has no choice but to continue Trump destructive policies towards China. The clash between ascending & declining superpower is unavoidable specially if the ascending superpower is an Asian one. Two third of the world population resides in the Indo-pacific region and their economic growth & influence cannot be stopped or contained. It's a reality that the Washington political & military elite MUST accept and work to mend their relationship with China if the world is to coexist peacefully. The alternative is simply unthinkable for the sake of humanity survival.
@Shenzhou.

Agreed. China is currently *at peace and not at war* with any country, since our last major conflict in 1979. Instead of making war, China is building infrastructure like _roads, railways, highways, bridges, tunnels, powerstations, dams, ports, airports,_ etc and investing in developing countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and also African countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Chad, Sudan, Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania, etc. Whereas the United States is *warmonger* being involved in Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghan War, Libyan War, Syrian War, Yemen War, etc, even in the 21st century. USA is bombing in those Middle Eastern countries and enacting regime change by cutting off their "heads" (Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, etc) and then installing their own US puppet governments in place.

LinkedIn is NOT leaving China. I just talked with a head hunter in Beijing. Their company just had a meeting with LinkedIn representatives who assured them that the company will continue to operate in China. What is "leaving" is LinkedIn's personal social functions -- the part of LinkedIn that looks like Facebook. The reason is just as the guest said, for privacy. LinkedIn cannot operate their servers in China without pulling overseas data into China. They are not allowed to move Chinese data to overseas. They do not want to build a separate social network for China. That's why.

As an Indonesian, I know LinkedIn. But I'm not interested at all. I just used my search for an old colleague who went missing and it appeared on Linked when I googled his name. Overall LinkedIn is very unattractive and has no effect in everyday life. Most people on LinkedIn aim to develop their work needs. It looks like people in full formal wear and it's very boring.

The correct name should be the Communist Party of China (CPC) *NOT* the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The name of the party in Chinese is _Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng_ (中国共产党) where _Zhōngguó_ (中国) means *China* and _Gòngchǎndǎng_ (共产党) means *Communist Party.* So the correct acronym should be CPC instead of CCP.

It's similar to how Google lost the majority market share in China to Baidu. While Google's market share climbed from 15% in mid-2006 to 31% in 2010, Baidu's shared increased its market share from 47% in mid-2006 to 64% in 2010, which is a significant lead. Because Baidu introduced many innovative features that Google didn't.

It’s all about profit margins. I think the 50million Chinese users really does not make MS very much money. Re-designing the system and backend probably is gonna cost them a lot for very little ROI. And their is no guarantee the new system will be future proof to China’s constantly changing policies. The negative press for compliance also is not worth dealing with.

About China University..China university just robbed students and give zero value of education. This is my bitter 15 years experience in China, and in Chinese universities as a bachelor degree, master and PhD. The worst things is the University International school administration staff.. all of them behave rude inhuman, and extremely uncooperative, almost 99% university are like this. I was studying in liaoniang, a medical university in there, in henan and Tianjin.. their administration staff was all so corrupt and inhuman behavior they did with every student. Tianjin medical university is the most bad staff. They all the time in meetings misbehaving with students, and embarrassing students that oh you are eating Chinese money, you are eating Chinese tax money. And we so want to say that all your China eat our country money because our countries buy Chinese products so you have no happy and good life otherwise.. But in China if you argue with teacher, they are so inhuman, they will keep that in their heart and you go back country and do your degree verification they won’t do for you. And this happened with many many students. And they never reply message never receive call. But they are so unprofessional, they even don’t know every country provide scholarships to other and that’s international countries agreement, many Chinese students study on scholarships in other countries as well. And the administration staff that handle foreign students their job is just as a mediator but they never ever help students. They always criticize foreigner students and disrespect foreigner students. I wish every foreign student should go any country for study but not China because here the university 1, teaching is very poor just read slides, 2 , the staff behavior is worse than animals and they never respect foreigner students. I hope China education ministry take a struck action against these China universities international school administration staff.. because every university students across China face the same issue

I think the people should continue to use social media to stay in contact with friends in both countries & the people should use social media to push the governments of both countries together be friends, like the people. If we keep doing this perhaps the governments will change their attitudes towards each other. Peace & prosperity of the world is everyone's responsibility.
