It’s like a rule of action RPGs that the best boss in the game is just a cool looking dude with a sword.

Yep. That definitely checks out for a lot of the Action JRPGs I've played. My favorite boss in each of the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne were swordsmen of one kind or another, and that's true for plenty of other games in the genre. For the Ys franchise, I'd say that my favorite boss in The Ark of Napishtim and Monstrum Nox are both swordsman. However, there are still great sword-wielding bosses in the other games, too, with a certain late game boss in The Oath in Felghana being my second favorite fight in the entire series behind the final boss of that game.

Great video, Alex! I haven't played Strikers, but P5R is among my top 10 favorite games of all time, as well as my current favorite JRPG. Also, thanks for the shout-out. It's clear I've been a long-time viewer when I get mentioned like that. Haha. I get what you mean about tanky bosses being annoying. I've never thought that padding out a boss's HP just to extend the fight did any favors for the battle's quality and often makes the experience tedious. That's an issue I've had with how some games handle their bosses. For instance, as much as I love the newer Ys games, I'm not a fan of how they changed the bosses and the difficulty for these party-based titles. To compensate for the games being easier, a lot of the bosses are much tankier, so they take longer to kill. However, with a few exceptions, the bosses either don't do that much damage with each hit or are very slow, so you usually can just wail on them most of the time and tank damage without consequence. I much prefer how this was handled in Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin because bosses had more reasonable health bars but also could kill you very quickly if you weren't careful. This incentivized you to actually learn the bosses' patterns and place just as much emphasis on dodging as getting damage in (more in the vein of Souls-likes). All in all, I want a boss fight to feel engaging more than anything else, and I don't get that feeling as much when the best tactic is just to wail on a tanky boss that takes forever to bring down. Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!

My favorite part of the akira boss fight is you can clearly tell the vocals for the rivers in the desert remix were ripped from the original song

I legit agree that Natsume, Mariko, and Akira are the best bosses to P5S, but with the fun gameplay out of each party member battering a boss, I'm still appalled Akechi and Kasumi aren't DLC to that game unlike Tactica. Bummed out, even after both P5T and the Super Mario RPG Remake's launch today.
@goroakechi61269 ай бұрын
Agreed, especially since Akechi’s personality PERFECTLY fits the Warriors-type combat.

I was surprised by how much this game felt like a legitimate sequel to base Persona 5 (sorry Royal enjoyers). I really liked that even Haru got actual screen time and actual things to do in the plot for once.

DMC4 MISSION 12 DANTE IS SUCH A LOAD OF HORSESHIT FUCK THAT INPUT READING CUCK. And yeah The Savior is top 5 worst bosses in the entire series that boss had to have been made with torturous intent, not even Batman could get the information out of me that forcing this atrocity on me would. All that said I still haven't played P5S lol it's been in my backlog forever but I just haven't gotten to it, I know I'll enjoy it though. Preciate the shout out too, we (RPG Fan and I) love you guys back

@aarontruong3549 ай бұрын
@@Cytonox it's right in the middle of my ranking of the games. That being said, it is the most forgettable. I really like the first half of the game, but the second half is pretty awful. Bosses overall range from alright to WMD territory, the music is forgettable, and the weapon selection is pitiful (for Dante). I'm with you I could go the rest of my life never playing this game again

@@aarontruong354 I still haven't played any of the DMC games, but the impression I've always gotten is that the series has two of the greatest action games ever, while the rest of the titles range from mediocre to terrible. It seems to be 3 and 5 that make it such a beloved franchise.
@aarontruong3549 ай бұрын
@@rpgfan1187 3 and 5 are among the best in the genre, 1 and 2 are horrendous heretical dogshit, and 4 just kinda exists. I would consider myself a fan of the franchise but I only like half the games lol
