Glad peoples are still chatting about this game; I played it a long time ago as my first Zelda game and I was hooked start to finish. I will say that for Sand-ship I 100% had to use my book thing on the game for the door codes and such.

Wow! Two videos in one day! Your output is incredible! Great video, Alex! I have very mixed feelings about Skyward Sword, as it has some amazing bosses and dungeons but also suffers from arguably the worst case of padding in the entire series (possibly even more so than The Wind Waker, although that game doesn't have nearly as great dungeons in my opinion). I only played this game once, and that was quite a few years ago. However, from what I remember, my ranking would look something like this: 1. Ancient Cistern 2. Sandship 3. Lanayru Mining Facility 4. Fire Sanctuary 5. Sky Keep 6. Earth Temple 7. Skyview Temple Ancient Cistern is easily my favorite water dungeon in the series, as most of the others range from okay to abysmal in my eyes. Sandship is an incredible and creative dungeon, and it's my second favorite ship level in any game after the Super-Freighter from the original Deus Ex. I, too, am not the biggest fan of the final dungeons that reuse assets from earlier dungeons (much preferring the final dungeons from BotW, Twilight Princess, and The Minish Cap), but I give the Sky Keep extra points for the gimmick of switching the layout of the rooms around and for offering multiple ways of solving that puzzle. Something interesting I'd heard in the past was that Skyview Temple was actually a mistranslation. It's actually supposed to be called "Prospect Temple" (which makes more sense since it resembles a mine), but, because a scenic view can also be described as a prospect, the name was lost in translation. I'd wondered why they'd name a rather bland, subterranean dungeon "Skyview," but the mistranslation clears up the confusion. If I had to list my top 10 favorite dungeons from the Zelda games I've played, they would be: 1. Arbiter's Grounds (Twilight Princess) 2. Forest Temple (Ocarina of Time) 3. Ancient Cistern (Skyward Sword) 4. Snowpeak Ruins (Twilight Princess) 5. Stone Tower Temple (Majora's Mask) 6. Spirit Temple (Ocarina of Time) 7. The Palace of Winds (The Minish Cap) 8. Sandship (Skyward Sword) 9. Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild) 10. City in the Sky (Twilight Princess) While I'm at it, here's how I rank the 9 Zelda games I've played from favorite to least favorite: 1. Ocarina of Time 2. Breath of the Wild 3. The Minish Cap 4. Twilight Princess 5. Majora's Mask 6. A Link to the Past 7. Skyward Sword 8. The Wind Waker 9. The Legend of Zelda Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your next upload!

Skyward sword had a pretty solid dungeon ranking overall. I think the only two I didn't enjoy were Sky Keep and Fire Sanctuary. Both have a lack of a really cool or interesting boss which hurts their appeal to me. Sky Keep feels like there's cut content in it for how lackluster it feels. The Fire Sancutary reusing the same first boss but slightly harder was bland to me and the item was pretty boring. The two sand dungeons were amazing for me. This game may have been the first to use the swapping present and pass mechanic for a level which Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 went on to use a few years later. That sandship pirate deserved to be the boss instead of the lady from Monster Inc. Also the point you made about padding is so true, it gets pretty ridiculous with the end few dungeons.

Collecting the music notes in the forest was one of the most tedious endgame slogs I’ve ever suffered through, and the list of stuff like that is enormous. The boss fights with Ghirahim kinda sucked anyways so him getting reused really does blow. I’ll talk about the bosses soon, stay tuned!

Yeah, the Lanayru Mining Facility and Sandship were definitely precursors to "Effect and Cause" from Titanfall 2 and "A Crack in the Slab" from Dishonored 2, both of which are masterpieces of level design in their own right. While it wasn't implemented in a single level, Chrono Trigger used similar mechanics by having your actions in one time period cause drastic changes in the future. For instance, ending a drought and planting seeds in the Middle Ages results in a new forest appearing in the present day, while showing generosity to a poor man in one time period causes his distant descendant (who was a wealthy miser) to become a generous man because of the principles passed down from the ancestor you helped. It's always interesting when games implement these time-traveling mechanics, as it shows the long-term consequences of your actions.

My ranking is very different to yours: I really liked Skykeep as a dungeon with the room-shifting mechanic! Didn't like the mining faciity where I had to cleanup the whole dam place with the gust bellow. And I did not like the Sandship boss one bit, so it drags down the whole dungeon.

Ok a bit off topic of the video here, but we have massively different rankings for the 3D Zelda games. For me it's: 1. Majora's Mask 2. Wind Waker 3. Ocarina of Time 4. Twilight Princess 5. Breath of the Wild 6. Skyward Sword I feel I have to defend myself on my botw take a bit. It was one of the best experiences I've had on a first playthrough but the game has zero replay value to me along with by far the worst dungeons and bosses in the series and probably also the worst story. It absolutely excels at the areas they really focused on but falters just about everywhere else. Hell it even feels like it has the least enemy variety. The lack of replayability is a killer for me though. I never want to play it again. It's magic could not survive outside of single playthrough for me. It's a good thing that Skyward Swords pacing is so awful that it makes that game even less appealing to replay For what it's worth my order of playing them was WW, TP, OOT, MM, SS, BOTW

Nice video, would love to see more zelda content from this channel! Here's how I would rank it: 7. Earth Temple: As far as I'm concerned, it's just a watered down Dodongo's cavern (it basically has the same item and boss) but with a painfully linear design. I really like this game's bomb mechanics, but the pre-dungeon portion already did enough as an introduction to how they work and this dungeon didn't really add anything to that. 6. Fire Sanctuary: Honestly, I find this to be one of the most boring dungeons in the series. It's extremely uncreative and straightforward, especially after the previous two dungeons, and I was bored the whole way through. The digging segments are slow, tedious, and uninteresting. Really nothing about it stands out to me aside from the boss fight. It also doesn't help its case that it comes right after the bs scrapper escort mission. 5. Skyview Temple: It's a very linear first dungeon, but I think it does a good job teaching the sword/motion controls through its puzzles/enemies. The beetle is a great item and Girahim is one of the best first bosses. 4. Lanayru Mining facility: I really enjoy this dungeon for what it is, but nothing about it really blows me away. It has the fun timeshift puzzles and enemy design that is consistent with all the desert segments and some cool platforming, but its progression is still pretty straightforward. 3. Sky Keep: I'm a big fan of slider puzzles, and as far as final dungeons go, I think this one does a really good job at testing everything you've learned up to this point. Aside from the tedious lava room, there were some really creative and satisfying puzzles here that take everything you've learned to their logical conclusion, as well as cool combat scenarios where they really piled enemies onto you. It does leave a bit to be desired in terms of unique design, but I'll still argue in its favor. 2. Sandship: This is easily the best in terms of puzzle design and it makes for a very fun and memorable environment to solve and find secret extras in. The boss is a little clunky, but aside from that, this one is very solid. 1. Ancient Cistern: I think there's a bit of missed potential in the puzzle design here (the statue mechanics could have made for far more complex progression by gating off more areas similar to the Sandship's timeshift stone). In spite of all of this, I absolutely love this dungeon. I don't normally like to give credit purely for atmosphere as opposed to level design, but his whole place is so gorgeous and iconic that I make an exception for it. Right from the beginning to the end, the whole thing is very memorable and somewhere I'd always want to explore and hang out in. Add in one of the best boss encounters in the series and you have a near perfect dungeon. Overall, I think this game's dungeon design is fairly solid, but it doesn't have anything on the N64 games or Twilight Princess.
@Cytonox
@Cytonox Жыл бұрын
Honestly I like Skyward Sword’s dungeons more than the N64’s ones. OOT’s first 3 suck and the adult link ones are good for the most part but have issues imo. Majoras Mask I like Great Bay and Stone Tower, and am sort of neutral on the other 2. Will make videos on both of those games soon! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@rpgfan1187
@rpgfan1187 Жыл бұрын
@@Cytonox I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here, but Great Bay is one of my least favorite dungeons in the series. I already wasn't a fan of OOT's Water Temple, but I find Great Bay Temple even more tedious and frustrating to trudge through, compounded by the three-day time limit and the fact that I've never liked the Zora's swimming controls. It's still better than Turtle Rock from A Link to the Past in my opinion, as that dungeon is absolutely irritating for me, but it's still one of the dungeons I dread the most. Conversely, Stone Tower Temple is one of my favorites in the franchise, despite being another one of the most challenging 3D dungeons in the series, as I just love the theme, gimmick, lore, and layout of that dungeon. Still, I'm glad that you're able to enjoy the Great Bay Temple more than I do. It's always interesting to see different people's perspectives on the series' dungeons.

I still like WW but it has a ton of problems I just can’t ignore. The dungeons are bad at worst and average at best, the overworld navigation is tedious beyond belief until you get the red sail ~40% through a playthrough, and the triforce hunt at the end sucks.
