I noticed my thread protector is cracked all the way through. It looks like it came loose under the compensator and got hit but it's too wedged in there to get it out. I emailed CZ to ask about a replacement and they flat out said go to HBI and buy one. Thanks CZ, very cool.

Edit: I got it, put it on a glock 22 9mm conversion barrel and it seemed like it actually helped quite a bit. My groups were actually looking a lot better. It did change the report of the pistol a little bit too, It sounds a bit meaner than the pop it made before.

Correct. And a lot of people do exactly this. But if going this route we recommend putting a thin film of high temperature grease/anti-seize (think automotive brakes) on the 1/2-28 threads. Yes, over LONG periods of time it will come off with regular cleaning, but generally a very thin film does a great job of protecting the 1/2-28 threads... the carbon build up will wipe off easily if you ever decide to use the 1/2-28 threads for something else in the future.

I had a gunsmith install your guys' MLok handguard on my Evo 3. The way he gave the gun back to me there is nothing on the end of the barrell, just a wider section of threads that then goes to a smaller section of threads. Is there something I need to do in order to install a new or the original muzzle device? I'm no gunsmith and don't want to shoot the gun until I have a proper muzzle device back on the gun.
@hb_industries
@hb_industries Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have a Gen 2 Scorpion with "dual thread" type barrel with our 6.84" angle handguard installed? The barrel probably has two types of threads; M18x1 for the barrel nut, stepping down to a 1/2-28 thread at the muzzle. The larger M18x1 threads are used by the factory barrel nut to retain the factory handguard and flash hider. Under the factory flash hider should be a thread protector on the smaller 1/2-28 threads. The gun is safe to shoot as long as the bore/muzzle is clear; that could be a muzzle device correctly installed on the smaller more common 1/2-28 threads (tight, torqued against the shoulder of the larger M18x1 threads). Or it could be the factory flash hider torqued on the M18x1 threads. The M18x1 threads are long, to the point where they are going to be visible from the top while using our 6.84" angle handguard. What we typically recommend, if the cosmetics of visually seeing the threads is distracting or unsightly, would be to run our 6.84" flat handguard (b/c is extends to cover those threads from the top side). Please don't hesitate to call/email us directly for help or if you want to swap out the handguard shroud to another type/style. We got you 👊

@hb_industries
@hb_industries 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, blue loctite is great for the thread protector. We like the blue 243 for muzzle devices because it seems to resist solvents (ie barrel cleaning chemicals) a little better than the 242 flavor. But... degreasing the threads and applying a couple drops of ANY type of thread lock is far better than running it without.

I got a fan port compensator (meaning 2nd one in your video) and when installing I can't get it to screw tight and have the holes facing upward completely evenly. Always slightly lop sided. You said they must be timed and facing upward but screwed it on and off without showing it completely installed so I have no point of reference to know if it being a little uneven is a problem. I hope someone understands what I mean, it's a little hard to explain
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 4 жыл бұрын
I think I understand what you are asking/what the issue could be. Our fan port comps include a crush washer, and it is important that this crush washer be used with this particular compensator. The crush washer will allow the compensator to be "timed" while in its last rotation. You DO NOT torque the crush washer flat, rather, after the compensator comes into contact with it, simply continue to turn/rotate the compensator until it is in the correct orientation. The deflection in the crush washer is designed to keep the compensator in place. If that makes sense? And if you have "flattened" out your crush washer, please just call or email us, we can send you another :-)
@POGIAKO62
@POGIAKO62 4 жыл бұрын
@@hb_industries i have the same issue like A.H. comment. After i put the crush washer and turn/hand tight the compensator the holes ended up at 2 o'clock. Is it safe for the barrel to keep tighten the compensator that much (almost 315 degree-turn)?
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 4 жыл бұрын
@@POGIAKO62 Yes, the crush washers are designed with enough deflection in the taper (crush) to compensate for 360 degrees of mis-alignment on a 1/2-28 thread pattern. Or, one full turn from the time that the muzzle device and crush washer come into contact with the shoulder of the barrel. 315 degrees is a lot, but the washers are designed to absorb it.

If I were to take off the thread protector, will the threads rust, because they are exposed?
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 4 жыл бұрын
The threads on factory CZ barrels are nitrided, which does a pretty good job in our experience at preventing rust on steel (ie: same finish as the outside surface of the barrel). The primary purpose of the thread protector on the CZ Evo is to prevent physical damage to the 1/2-28 threads due to corrosion from heat/burning powder/copper/lead/carbon etc...

Nice video. Informative. Thanks. I’ve got a Thompson SG2 with a Gemtech 2 on the way. Any advice on how to attach? Preferably with the tri lug? Thanks again.
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 5 жыл бұрын
3-lug/tri-lug is definitely a very versatile way to mount 9mm/300blk cans. If "Gemtech 2" is their "Aurora-2" model 3-lug would not be an option, and the small lightweight wipe style cans in general not a good candidate for SMG type hosts. (However your Thompson SG2 would be perfect)

Can you just remove that whole part and mount the muzzle device directly to the barrel?
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 3 жыл бұрын
If "that whole part" is the barrel nut, then it would depend on handguard... The OEM handguard is retained by the barrel nut; therefore if the barrel nut is removed, the handguard is not retained (will fall off). If you are using an aftermarket/free float handguard (like ours) you can remove the barrel nut entirely. Hope this helps?

@hb_industries
@hb_industries Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can install a 1/2-28 tri lug directly onto your muzzle threads, it will mate against the shoulder where the 1/2-28 threads step up to M18x1. As you mentioned their may be a gap on the M18x1 threads between that shoulder and the barrel nut, but it will be primarily cosmetic. Not having the M18x1 ring installed will not affect the tri lug alignment or operation.

Can you remove the barrel nut for deeper sitting comp?
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 2 жыл бұрын
It depends; you cannot remove the barrel nut if you are using a handguard that requires it (barrel nut retains factory handguard on some models) but if you are running a "free-float" type handguard then yes, you can definitely remove the barrel nut and run a comp that sleeves the barrel or similar.

I notice the spring tab on the Evo in this video is at a different position than mine is on my Evo. The spring tab is at about 10 or 11 o'clock, whereas mine is just under 6 o'clock (facing the barrel, as if the muzzle were a clock). I haven't messed with installing any kind of muzzle device, why would mine be in a different position?
@hb_industries
@hb_industries 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! That spring tab is secured to the "barrel nut". The reason for the different position/clocking is that the "barrel nut" is not timed to the barrel/handguard/receiver. When the factory installs the "barrel nut" they do not care where in its rotation it meets torque. The nut is simply tightened, and they stop when it meets torque. The final position/rotation of the "barrel nut" will be slightly different on every Evo, and therefore the spring tab position slightly different as well. If that makes sense? It is a very clever design, intended to tie everything together without the need for exact rotational alignment of handguard+barrel+muzzle device.

The Evo S2 Micro models with flash can are a 1/2-28 RH threaded barrel. Removal and installation of muzzle devices on these models is very similar to an AR rifle, no spring tab like the Evo S1 pistols, just left loose/right tight and use a crush washer or rockset/thread lock.

@hb_industries

@hb_industries
@hb_industries 3 жыл бұрын
@@yepthehusband great question and yes, the 15mm barrel flats could and should be used to counter the torsion of installing a muzzle device. The barrel fixation is clam-shelled in the upper receiver (polymer), and needs to be supported whenever the barrel/muzzle is torqued.
