I think the issue here is that they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they had been rejected at the earlier stages of application rather than at the last minute. I doubt they were trying to abuse the system, as you put it, as they were not intending to stay in the US permanently. I have the feeling that the border guards misunderstood their intentions and it´s also possible that their sexuality was another reason. That´s my take for what it´s worth. US Border & Immigration process sucks. I'm a US citizen and have flown in many times with friends from other countries and they were treated so poorly at the border. I worked at the embassy in Bogota and a Colombian friend of mine applied for a tourist visa. I was sure he would get it, but the officer that interviewed him at the embassy denied his visa. I tracked the guy down and spoke to him. He said he had decided to deny the visa even before the guy spoke because of the way he looked. The approval process is way too subjective and random.

I'm so confused. Our current political regime in the US is supposed to be really big on letting migrants come in. We've got thousands upon thousands coming in without having to go through the hassle to get any paperwork at all. We've got programs set up to give people who just come here free housing, and money etcetera. So why are they not just letting you two come in just to visit. As a US citizen, I had no idea my country was making things so hard for people to just come and visit, after the way our politicians brag about treating everyone equal and letting them come here, and not deporting people and so on. Then seeing the comments from other people here, saying similar things about how strict the US has seemingly become, it just makes me feel like maybe I've lived under a rock the past four years, or the media has been lying to me, because the media here makes it seem like there would never be a problem letting tourists from other countries visit the united states, and that we are welcoming, compassionate, and wouldn't reject people at the borders anymore, let alone reject them just to visit, especially when they go through the trouble of following all the procedures first. I kind of feel ashamed. Sorry guys.

actually it's your fault that they didn't let you in because you applied for the refugee program, even though you already had residency/protection in the UK, where you came BEFORE THE WAR. So why are you applying for a refugee visa? this is why airport employees felt that you were trying to cheat them. and if they previously rejected your applications for a tourist visa, it was probably because you are of military conscription age, or because of your work as "content creators" because you wanted to come to the USA and work on a tourist visa. no, you want to work - apply for a work visa. there is nothing difficult about it, but if you thought that you could stretch the rules in such serious matters, you know... Hi guys. I'm Canadian and found it odd that people with Canadian residency were refused entry. I can say that Canadian citizens get in to the USA very easily and vice-versa. Maybe you should come visit Canada. You can even apply to become a citizen and then will have no problems getting into the USA. The 2 best cities are where I live in Montreal and Toronto as well. A friend of mine many years ago applied for Canadian citizenship, he arrived in Canada and was resident there for about five years. He then established a business in Las Vegas with an American who acted as notiary (a legal requirement) and with that he eventually got American nationality as well. It took him a few years but it worked out in the end. Even if you had made a mistake in applying for the wrong type of permit to gain entry to the United States, it shows that there is something very wrong in their system that such an error was not picked up BEFORE you left the U.K. To travel all that way and then be denied entry at the border is ridiculous, annoying and so, so wrong. I must say that even travelling to the U.S. on a tourist visa is not plain sailing as one is treated as though one is a criminal on landing.

The problem lies with the American Embassy/Consulate that interviewed them for the visa. Usually a lengthy interview takes place when submitting a visa application. They'd state their reasons for requesting the visa. Based upon their answers, the State Dept. employee should have been able to determine right then & there if they were applying for the correct visa. If not, they should have been told so at the interview. Also, visa applications go through several levels of review. If there was a problem, it should have been caught then, no afterwards in LV.

In my opinion, where you messed up was flying to Vegas. You had a sponsor in Arizona and your first flight should have been to Arizona and immediately hooked up with your sponsor. Your sponsor should have been at the airport awaiting your arrival and assisted you in getting through customs.

I live in the US and my parents are from Europe but my father was born in New York and thus had birth rights as an American. Yet he grew up in France. Immigration is a very complex set of laws and international agreements. Regarding Ukraine, many counties including the US and the UK have signed an international asylum seeker agreement which states that whichever participating country the asylum seeker goes to, that country has to allow those individuals to gain citizenship in their new home country after five years and this is the reason why you cannot relocate to the US at this time. Once you get your new UK citizenship in a few years, you will be issued a new British passport which will allow you to openly travel to the US for up to six months without a visa, annually, as both countries participate in the Visa free zone. So once you get your British passports, you can come on over and visit us at any time. And yes, you can drag your boyfriends along and even get married over here if you feel like it. Sorry for the misinformation that was provided to you prior to your trip. As I always say, don't just go by what someone says, do research to discover the real answer. And yes, I have both a French and an American passport as I am a dual national.

I can’t stand the immigration policies the US has. I’m so sorry this happened to you guys. The US is beautiful, and there really are wonderful people here. You just have to find them. If you ever get to come back and stay for a while, there are a couple beautiful parks around Las Vegas. The Strip is a bit overwhelming, but beautiful in its own right. I would love to go back. If you get the chance, come to the Midwest. There are a few magnificent parks and historical sites here that are worth seeing; Red River Gorge, The Columbus Zoo, the Cincininnati History Museum Center, Chicago and the Bean, the Bourbon Trail of Northern Kentucky…. I hope you get to see the better side of our… sophomoric country some day.
