Lots of folks have African ancestry without even knowing it. This African blood comes from the Spanish side, way back when they were battling the Moors. Nowadays, having light or dark skin can be linked to those recessive genes kicking in. In my own family, I've got relatives with green eyes and blonde hair, but they've still got those tell-tale indigenous features that scream "Mexican heritage!" It reminds me of what went down in the southern US with families of Mexican descent. At first, they kinda played down those native traits in more recent generations. But eventually, they discovered they had Native American roots buried in that Mexican side of the family tree.

Absolutely. As a first generation Mexican American growing up in a very white Northern California town in the 80’s my parents spoke to me in Spanish primarily until I entered kindergarten then that was it they wanted me to not be different and so my Spanish is pretty broken now. I’m ashamed of it but I still speak Spanish at work all day as I work in the concrete construction field. My parents migrated to the USA in the mid 50’s and everyone else as well I’m sure I have some very distant family in Mexico somewhere but I’ve never been there. I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine on a jobsite last week about how he felt about the way the superintendent talks to him (older white super) and he said he feels like they don’t respect him and talk down to him and that he feels they are all racist and look down on them and he said to me knowing I’m Mexican and said I’m sure you get the same feeling at times too and I told him to his surprise that of course I do but I can speak English with a redneck country draw and Spanish with a strong Spanish accent so I’m good at blending like a chameleon. But not only do I feel racism from white people but I get discrimination from my Mexicano brothers too. He laughed and said “no llores POCHO!” 😂 he said I was trippin but it’s true. Sometimes I’m not white enough for the white guys and not Mexican enough for the Mexicans.

Thanks for taking the time to explore this controversial and disturbing topic. Racism manifests in many ways. I saw how you started asking questions and I got a bit upset for your apparent lack of research before jumping on this project. Well I am most proud of you, young brother on how this took a turn, bringing enlightenment through this very well knowledgeable elder, who you interviewed. I am a 68 year old Afro-Puerto Rican, fluent in Spanish, who grew up in a similar dilemma of white supremacy. I was able to relate to all that he shared. This man was extremely transparent and honest--no diplomacy or excuses. He gave it straight-up. I will continue to follow your journey. Thanks for your work.

The problem is, africans in America and whites were supposed to join the Native race, Not replace it. That's why black Americans struggle with identity and white Americans have none. In Mexico the Natives retained more power which used to stretched the entirely of the west coast, but the Natives claim them as their people now, sure they have "roots" but if you live in someone else's land you should Ultimately join them, that's why they don't struggle with race, they are 1 now.
@thatdude39775 ай бұрын
Also majority of black slaves were sent to tropical parts of America, only small percentage went north. Majority of them inheriting Native land who suffered extinct via disease and greed. But blacks have the audacity to say they have had it worse in "america", north America to be specific, or any part of the americas as a matter of fact.

They have their Native Mexican roots to fall back along their African ones as well as a history of peaceful coexistence with the rest of the mexicans. Many black people want to learn about Mexico……………it’s just the language barrier. I would definitely go if I could communicate. I would go so many places if I could just speak the language. It’s very intimidating and frustrating when you can’t speak to those around you. (* your probably thinking, why don’t you learn Spanish? Same reason I don’t know French……I tried, but it is very difficult if you don’t start from an early age. I took 3 high school classes in Spanish and failed everytime. Same with French in college)

Great job man! Love your channel. A suggestion: The term “mixed” is reserved in its strictest sense for different species. Since we are all the same species we are multicultural or multi ethnic. “Mixed” was a term used in early colonialism for humans because pseudoscience at the time put forward the idea that Africans were not human so mixing with them would be mixing species. I live in Imperial Beach and have friends in Tijuana, Rosarito, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Tecate and Encinitas. Keep going bro.

Thank you for your perspective & awareness. Some Mexicans in the comments here think more on race than ethnicity, which this would be moreso. Mexican of African descent makes sense for person/nation first language to prorize nation before ethnicity, even something vague like "African", as that have many cultures by itself.
