I understand that, despite the 5-1 scorline, the Czechs were actually furious with themselves for allowing Paul Caligiuri to score for the US, especially as Eric Wynalda had just been sent off, leaving the US playing 10 against 11. Before the game, Czechoslovakian fans had boasted that the US wouldn't have a shot on target, let alone scoring. The Italian fans boasted that they would win 10-0. It only ended 1-0. After that, no one mocked the Americans again.

I am from Trinidad. I did not know Eric Wynalda was in the 1990 team. He did not play in Trinidad on Nov 19th 1989.

@@triniduane Well, both he and Marcelo Balboa were still in college when the US played T&T in 1989 and so were not part of the team then. They emerged as two of the best college players and were ultimately drafted into the team for the tournament. So you can say that Wynalda's red card in this game was due to naivety on his part, considering that he was just 21 at the time, while Balboa was 22.

This was the US first World Cup since 1950. US worst World Cup by far they lost all 3 games. Plus this was Americas worst kit as well lol.
