Cziffra truly makes this sound like it's being played by two separate pianos. Absolutely incredible sound and the effect is exactly what Liszt wanted. Wow. I only wish the piano was better in tune so this sparkling interpretation would shimmer even more.

The initial arpeggios start off slow and get faster still maintaining the clarity, if you close your eyes it almost sounds like a harp

Such a gorgeous interpretation-such expressive nuances! So smooth in the opening arpeggios. So many others sound like a thunderous herd of horses! This is my favorite piece and probably my favorite interpretation! I do think Victor Borga played this beautifully, too, although this may be better. But I wish someone would post Victor’s performance. I’ve only found it on dvd as part of a complete concert.

Oh wow this is marvelous. I still don't understand why Cziffra is not as popular as horowitz. Cziffra was the real deal, I read "des canons et des fleurs" i highly recommend this book to understand the artist better. Thanks for sharing the music.

Even Horowitz himself once said he admired Cziffra's techniques!

Zciffra was way better than Horowits both in technique and interpretations

The simple answer, imo, is because he lived in France and not America. Post WW2, American ascendance to primacy in terms of cultural proliferation and economic dominance ensured that American players, or at least ones who made their home there, or had American press and booking agents, got promoted while musicians you lived in Europe, or Russia (America's arch nemesis), weren't as visible even if vastly superior. Growing up in North America (Canada), I had never even heard Sviatoslav Richter until I was in my 20s, which is just crazy. Thank God for KZbin, that's all I can say.

This is it, when Cziffra plays Liszt, Liszt comes to life. OMG this is so good. Imagine you play like this, or even better you compose like this,
