Underwater Firefighters

Many years ago in Melbourne Australia a young boy was sucked into a pump inlet at a fountain and carried along way along the pipe. Two MFB fire fighters using went down the pipe using SCBA sets not scuba sets and got the boy out.

Firefighters can go underwater with their bunker gear. I thought they needed some special scuba suit for that.

Very dangerous practice. The demand valve and exhalation valves are set up on a test rig to work precisely at the atmospheric pressure of the rigs environment. They are not designed to be nor set up for underwater use underwater. I was part of an exercise in Greater Manchester FS using Siebe Gorman Airmaster Mk1 sets and it really highlighted the dangers of using them underwater plus it was damned hard to actually submerge. The only way we could descend without extra weighting was to physically force ourselves down a fixed ladder.

It's banned in the UK it's way to dangerous if it valve breaks that's it your done

I don't think it will this practice was banned in the UK because it's very dangerous due to a likely possibility of the tank flooding or it leading oxygen and shooting u out of the water
