Thank you for the feedbacks. So how this show works is we will try to Google things up if we feel curious enough about something but the information we get from Google isn't always the most accurate. Please understand that none of us grew up in China or Asia. No amount of "studying" will make us all agree to the same set of "facts". We are not here to convince anyone we know things better. Basically you are watching professional musicians from North America reacting AUTHENTICALLY to various performances. It's almost like a fun social experiment. We all have our own biases and understandings that are very personal and we are learning a lot from all of you through these episodes we film. But we will never do homework or prepare what to say for the sake of impressing a specific group of audience. That defeats the purpose of the show! Of course, you are welcome to click away. But here's the official reply video from the founder and host (the guy on the left) of this show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqmngpt9e8SWjqcsi=MTWCbckhPt5AjYab

You are not here to convince anyone you know things better, but your sentences are here to convince everyone that unpreparedness are acceptable. I think people are totally fine with the coach's opinions (which are professional and objective), the problem is the voice over. Based on what we watched in the video, the voice over was the one who picked the songs and showed to the coach. It's fun to watch how the coach enjoyed different vocal techniques being used in songs with same melody and lyrics, but it's unpleasant to watch while the one who prepared the materials didn't show her enough details.

I agreed to the previous comment. It's not about being mislead by google, or being in different cultural backgrounds. We get that, and won't be so mad if information are incorrect from time to time. I believe there will be many kind people would love to share the information below in the comments, which would be cool as well, forming a back and forth interaction. What is irritating is that 8 times out of 10 when the coach asked anything about the lyrics or the artist, the reply is "I don't know" or "I'm not sure". You may as well just edit those moments out of the video :) I enjoyed the video, and I hope this channel keeps getting better

@@陳威連-n5m Agree! You guys need to do more preparations before filming, or just edit the clips when you are checking answers. That will make the videos more enjoyable to watch. Btw, I just love this song so much.

I don't get it if you guys are supposed not to do any preparations for more "authentic" reaction, what is the point of the coach asking you two questions? Showing the audiences how to google? Then maybe she can skip asking and just google by herself. It's the coach's part to show her authentic reaction while listening to the song and also "knowing" the song's background. But it's true the lyrics of this song are profound.

Love the response. Old school fan gets their feelings hurt when their idols are deemed not very good at singing but the truth is Karen Mok is an inferior vocalist compared to A-Lin. A lot of popular "singers" from the 90s are not very good vocalists. Period. No amount of "oh but that's not their style" or "this song is SUPPOSED to be sung with so and so mood and tone" or "she has a delicate voice"...blah blah blah. In case you forgot, the vocal coach doesn't actually understand the lyrics. They don't owe you anything. Get over it!
I also wonder if JJ ever responded to her question?
A-Lin is the winner of the 34th Taiwan Golden Melody Award for female singer. Her voice is so powerful and touching. Her dream is to sing to people worldwide. She has been working very hard for her dream. I'm so glad that more people appreciate her voice.🥹
(The Xiao-Yu Sung,He is my most favorite Taiwanese R&B male singer of all time. 🤩 )
A-Lin is a native Taiwanese singer. There are many fantastic female native Taiwanese singers, like A-Mei, 巴奈、紀曉君、梁文音……, and male singers, including but not limited to 施孝榮、動力火車、陳建年…… But speaking about “Love愛”,the original singer Karen Mok 莫文蔚 who tells story incredibly subtle is the best. After all, singing is not all about showing off technical skills. Plus the simple music arrangement starting with one piano in her version fits this song much better! The original version was so devastating that I could still remember the afternoon when I firstly listened to this song in dormitory more than twenty years ago. That’s how soul-touching her version of 愛 is.

Agreed. Karen sang with her soul, while the other 3 with their voices. Seriously, how do you compare a soul with voices..?

There's also a little bit of bittersweetness the way she sings it, I don't think the song's meant to be dramatic
I still like Karen Mok's original version the best. Her interpretation, the so called nervousness and slight pitch deviation suit the song well. The song is about a person in their most vulnerable and insecured moments, and every time, I heard Karen's unique virbrato, yodeling and slight pitch devisation, which is her unique package, my mind just goes back in times.

It looks like you have no music background. Karen’s voice n singing technique is below par. Only some of her songs are nice to listen to. Thanks to the composer. That’s why she is a second grade singer in china

Her "nervousness", or vulnerability, and her slight pitch deviation were all part of her arts. They were there to convey her feelings. I'm honestly surprised that the coach didn't realize it. Maybe it's because she didn't understand the lyrics

She is an artist, and when she sings, you recognize her right away… one and only!!
This song was a big hit around 2000; the lyrics are beautiful. It is hard to choose from these singers. I am not a loyal fan of JJ but my sister was. I once went to JJ's concert with her; he is an amazing singer and great performer(he dances too!). I can't imagine but I hope the Teacher will have a chance to see him live in his concert.
