You energized me. Great bands and entertainment. By the way - who won what? All look like Gold to me. Stay healthy! From one Marching Spirit to another. God Bless.

Lance Jones The champion of this tournament is this high school of seconds!(15:10)
The playing is technically highly proficient and the drill precise. But are bands not meant to entertain? Here they appear cold and soldier-like. So many wooden guns and swords! And why should salutes be so macho? What’s wrong with friendly salutes instead? In our troubled times, bands should evoke humanity, not aggression.

@@user-ye2ei6xq2v Thank you for this wonderful video. “Super Kids” the title says. Yes indeed. “Great Performances.” Absolutely! And so many genres on display, not just traditional marching. In these little snippets, we discover dance, swing, sit-down, various combinations of them with remarkable musicianship and harmony throughout. Since writing my original comment, I’ve discovered wonderful Japanese high school bands as well. In their various ways, the best in the world! (Though I remain least impressed with the military-style bands, too stuck in tradition for my taste.)

@@lightflight3638 That's interesting. But I'm still not sure what you meant by 'military'. Do you mean 'conservative'? How about the following performance?↓ kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3bWi3qBh96nhK8 This performance is full of new ideas and not conservative at all, but 'literally' military.

@@user-ye2ei6xq2v Military style= uniforms straight out of a military academy, with emphasis on precise steps and a stern demeanour, often associated with the twirling of rifles, that puts forward discipline as the prime virtue. To me, that appears to come from an educational ethos designed to format students into future members of a compliant workforce. Anyway, my teeth grit whenever I see twirling rifles and fixed military salutes. On the other hand, the video you have sent shows that marching can evolve into an art form. Here, we see the enactment, through music and complex formations, of a historic fable about war, love and death. Rather anti-military I’d say. Instead, the performance, seeking to appeal to human emotions, is beautiful. (I like Crow’s swagger towards the cage- good acting!) Marching, in my opinion, should move away from the military tradition towards becoming an entertaining and emotionally moving art form as Oarai do here. Thank you for this marvellous video.

@@lightflight3638 Thank you for replying. I totally agree with your opinion. It's not like students want to join the Self‐Defense Forces. Btw, I, as a Japanese, am very interested in some form of Japanese culture such as animes and idol culture(of J-POP) that are all based on Japanese school culture. And that school culture has actually been based on military culture, historically. Now people are seeking new balance between collectivism and individual creativity. It's not easy to make invention and innovation in such big groups while keeping the large scale in harmony that I think enables performances to generate emotional dynamism. I'm always looking forward to what's coming next.
