Wow. You have to put in and out 5 strings in just this video. I love the efford to put in this.

Honestly, not enough difference between them to rationalize a more difficult playing experience for me. I've moved down to the Custom Lights for playability with (IMHO) no meaningful difference in tone. Switching to the same gauge in Nanoweb has more affect on the sound than XS light to custom light. I'm not quite willing to go all the way down to Extra Light, as I feel there's a little too much low end lost. Thanks for the great shootout!

If you listen carefully there's a very noticeable difference. With medium gauge you will get more low end and more volume over all. It also will help you strengthen your fingers. It's all preference at the end of the day

I've been using these strings, both the light and medium Guage. I like them but the high e string on the light Guage is chimey, so I use either a Martin or elixir phosphor bronze 12 Guage string on my high e which sounds better. For my medium xs strings, I don't have that issue.

I use the 12/53 but honestly I don’t know why because they all sound great and very little if any difference in sound. Your thoughts please?

I think Mediums sound best on the high strings but they are quite hard to press down for me so it gives me a lot of fatigue. My favorites so far are custom lights but I do think the high strings can sound "smacky". However the tradeoff is worth it to me. I don't really want to fight my guitar. But, I think if you needed to record your guitar in the studio then a heavier gauge might be good. If it impedes performance then maybe not...Again, so much tradeoff.

@@JTravlos Hi Jeremy! I'm a beginner, when you say high strings do you mean higher on the guitar's neck (E A D) or high in tone? What I'm looking for is a deep full of echo sound of the thickest strings and a more mellow classic guitar (nylon) sound of the thin ones, which guage would suit the most for what I'm looking for? And what reason do you prefer the custom lights over the lights ones? Thanks a lot! 🙏

When we say high strings we mean the thinner strings that are higher in pitch. It sounds like you would like a high gauge string like mediums or maybe even hd lights because they will not be as brittle sounding as lighter gauge strings. I like custom lights because they feel really good with being slightly thicker than extra lights. There will usually be a tradeoff between tone and playability and I tend to like playability over tone just for the sake of not fighting the instrument when I pickup the guitar and play it.@@origami2365

Trying different pics can also make a difference when using the lighter strings for example nylon pics have much less pick attack and make the even thinnest string sound warm

Once you dropped from lights to custom lights, I felt a distinct drop off from the bass responses. Maybe even a more dull tone?

Just restring my guitar to the xtra light string.. but its too bright for me. Ilike the light one more in this video

To my ears the light or custom light sound the best

Have a Martin DX12 Mexico installed XS Light GA after tuning and intonement the first fret all strings are overly sharp. I notice these are .010 gauge compared to your standard .012 what is wrong here?

Maybe neck needs the extra pressure from heavier strings to counteract a backbow of the neck? Just a guess though I really dont know. Good luck. Let me know if you ever figure that out. Im curious as to what that is.

Hi, I had "9" D'addario strings on my Acoustic Ibanez. Very easy to play but the problem is that they go out of tune when I press them. Mostly EM or minor, D, Am , etc, those camp fire chords, not in other chords.. Very strange. Any suggestions?
