Only just discovered your channel. Thank you SO MUCH for not doing the usual "10 seconds of clean, 9 minutes of high gain" that so many reviewers do, and actually showing what each guitar can do with just the onboard tone/volume and switching. If I had the funds I'd spring for the deluxe, but the premier isn't half bad at all!

They are both great. I think the tonal difference are negligible because it may depends on setting, pickup height and you can't find two exact guitar sounding the same so I think the Premier would be enough for most players, even gigging or recording musicians because D'Angelico makes some of the finest guitars out there. The Deluxe adds indeed something cooler but, again, mostly cosmetics.

The comparison is very well made with short and nice clips! The Deluxe is brighter... The Premier sounded more mellow and jazzy. I usually prefer to have brighter sounding pickups and roll out the tone knob if I need to darken the sound.

The Premier is not bad. The Deluxe is better.THANK YOU! I appreciate you making a video where you can actually hear the difference in the guitar tone ( read minus mega gain). You can hear the detail in the real Duncan pickups vs. the Korean pickups. That is the kind of thing I was talking about. The instruments clarity will help you greatly in the long run.

In an Italian name, the D' prefix is not an initial (that you would pronounce separately), it's a contraction - like in the English word "can't". We don't pronounce "can't" as _can T_ , right? D'Angelico starts with the syllable 'Dan'. (Likewise, D'Addario starts with 'Dad'.)

Hey man, I really love the solid bodies that D’Angelico has come out with. I was just wondering if you could maybe define how the neck shape feels. I’m more into fatter rounder C shape necks and I know they define the neck shape as a “slim C”.

To me, the premier had a muddier sound for longer when you adjusted the tone and volume knobs, where as the deluxe had more clarity, that for me would make me buy the deluxe. Thank you for the awesome review!

Compared to the Deluxe Atlantic that you said you own and the Deluxe Brighton- which one would you choose? I guess they are very close except the later is a double cut. Cheers!!

Yo! I saw D'A send you here, they're awesome! Appreciate you leaving a comment dude 🙌🏻. So let's talk, I really like both guitars. I'm a little more partial to the Atlantic, it's my go-to guitar, my #1. Believe it or not, as similar as the Atlantic and the Brighton are (spec wise), they sound a lot different. I also made a review video for the Atlantic, if you want to see how it sounds. (I've also got a ton of clips on my instagram.) Honestly, if you're really torn between the two guitars, I would definitely head to a Guitar Center or find a local retailer and play them. At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with either guitar, both sound great. My choice is still The Atlantic, but that's based entirely on my personal preference, which may be different than yours.

I live in Toronto, ON and unfortunately the two dealers that actually carry D'Angelico, do not keep them stocked. Folks at D'Angelico, I must say, are awesome at communication. I was in touch with them about pricing since NAMM 19 and availalbility and found them to be prompt and efficient. Even had the EU sales guy respond when he figured out his NA counter part was on vacation on that day- what service :) !

Hey, can you shed some light on the deluxe guitars? I've been looking at them online, and the prices are all over the place. Some places are selling them for $800, others $2,000. I read somewhere that they "go on sale" a lot, and I've also noticed that the $2,000 price tag is also their MSRP price, which is always much higher than a guitar's actual price. Basically, what I'm asking, is this a guitar that's worth $2,000, or is it a typical $800 guitar and the sale thing is just a marketing tactic to make it seem like you're getting a very high end guitar for a low price?

The deluxe has a brighter high end which I prefer, but like you said, you could always swap out the pickups on the the premier, they are both excellent guitars

Really torn between the solid body D’Angelico guitars. Specifically the Brighton, Bedford, and Atlantic (leaning more toward the Atlantic. Just wanted your thoughts on them since my local guitar stores don’t have any to play and I’ll have to probably order one to ship to the store. * I also have small hands, play a replica strat, but just trying to help paint a picture to get a second hand opinion*. They are both most excellent. To my ears the Deluxe PU sounded more articulate, with better definition, and sparkling trebs. However, being hearing among individuals I wouldn't reject the Premier, just prefer the Deluxe. Just one thing your audience varies greatly in their hearing discrimination too. Love the D'Angelico guitars.

Nice overview of both guitars. The Deluxe does seem to sound a little brighter than the Premier. Difficult to tell if it's because of the wood type (Basswood vs Swamp Ash) or because of the pickups. If the build quality is of the same standard with both guitars, at about a $500 price difference I'd go with the Premier and maybe swap out the pickups to suit my taste (even the hardware can be upgraded if desired). I agree with you on what you say too! I think it’s just the pickups . The wood wouldn’t make that much of a difference . The premier looks good enough for me! I can’t see spending the extra money which besides better American made pickups and Grover tuners is just surface level furnishings mostly . I mostly care about physical feel of the guitar . I actually like the look of the premier neck better with the darker wood etc!

when it comes to solid bodies i dont mind the cheaper, less bright sound of the lower models cuz i ususally play more hard rock on it so the premier is a go. If im looking for a clear bright tone like for semi hollows then id consider the deluxes. Real talk, we musicians aint rich over here

Best advice I could ever give, is to absolutely save up and get the higher end model - everytime. Buying cheaper, "Good-enough" guitars will certainly keep you playing, but the re-sale blows, and they are never as good as the full-blown version that they are trying emulate. Save up a little bit longer and get the "forever" guitar vice the "for the moment" one.

I recently picked up two Eastman singlecut guitars (LP copy). They are amazing to say the least, and they easily outplay anything I have owned throughout my 35 years of playing. There is just no comparison when it comes to a quality instrument.

Great advice. Buy nice or buy twice. However, i bought a 500$ D'angelico premier Lexington acoustic/electric guitar for 199$ during a special with free shipping, brand spanking New. I don't think i did bad right?

The Premier sounds somehow muddier, like I’m wearing ear plugs. Then when you play the Deluxe it’s like taking the ear plugs out. There’s just more clarity in the sound. Wow, interesting video, thanks!

@@cosmic-fortytwo Very true, but if you take the average music listener, they wouldn't care if the guitar is a Gibson or rogue guitar, D'angelico Deluxe or Premier, wouldn't agree with that? I think most of us are watching this video because we are geeky and are into details of guitar tones, wood selection, brand history etc....but when engineers are mixing in the box, they can make that pig oink like any celebrity singer. as long as the recording file is well taken. With all honesty, it's a matter of preference. I respect your choice of the Deluxe over the premier. For others, it is a matter of budget.

Very nice information, and very nice playing too. Too many guys test guitars with distortion from the beginning. The only thing , i would recommend is, not to talk about tonewoods. There is a difference of tonewoods concerning the acoustic sound of your solidbody, but you dont put a microphone in front of your solidbody, right? You use the pickups , dont you? That might be the reason for your suprise, that these guitars do not sound so different. But this video is really nice !

In my mind's eye, I had 'mahogany' written all over for wood choice on these instruments. Nope! Swamp Ash and Maple is a curious combination choice for the Deluxe which can have a "scooped" tone profile. Most telecasters of Superstrats have this combination. It sounds fantastic clean, but a bit hairy once the overdrive kicks in. I'm curious as to how it would sound with more mid-focused pickups

It’s obviously the pickups . Real SD pickups vs the Duncan designed pickups. I’d buy the Premier & drop a set of Seth Lovers in it. Then it would really sing. I also like the Fingerboard on the Premier better. I don’t care for the look or feel of Pau Ferro.I agree what you said about the tuners. Locking is nice but unless you change strings a lot. I vote Premier, upgrade the pups & keep some money . Also prefer gig bags over bulky cases. I’ve got cases this guitar would fit in if I needed to take it outside the home.

Dustin Glass I do prefer the Atlantic to the Brighton. They are two slightly different sounding guitars and are made of different body materials. The Brighton is a great guitar, I just really love the Atlantic.

So 50$ for hipshot locking tuners 20 for strap locks and 240 for a pickup set 120 for a case so 430$ that would make the premier 1250-1300 but you would get to choose your pickups and strap lock type. Im not a big 59 fan or a fan of the deluxe fret wood. I think with the upgrades they are comparably priced. I also dont like that style strap locks but i do love that binding

I am not a fan of most of the Premier models. They are adequate guitars. But that is it. I am not knocking them, because you can find a lot of the Premier models at a great price. The Deluxe models have that those little things that make them play and sound like a professional instrument. Just went through this with my Player Mexi Tele. After a year I upgraded to an American Special and the difference was astounding!!

Nice review but 99 percent of what I play has at least some gain/overdrive on it. I like my blues a little raw sounding. I almost never play just a straight clean tone. Would have been nice even for just 45 seconds to light em up with high gain and see what they do

gorky75 they both feel really good. Smooth & comfortable playability due to the satin finish on the neck and the slim/modern neck shape. As stated in the video, the different fretboard woods will offer something slightly different tone wise, but from a playability standpoint they’re both very similar.
