I use a Tie Down very rarely in my training, but there are some cases where a horse has a habit of holding their head up too high that they lose connection and the communication down to their feet.
A Tie-Down to me is simply a tool to use for a brief time, it’s not something that I want a horse to depend on. We want the horse to find the release and come off of it softly.

How high should you allow the head to go up with the tie down? Also did you make you tie down? Do you have a video on how to make a tie down?

It will vary from horse to horse on how high the head should be . Generally I like to have the tie down long enough to allow the horse to stand comfortably with enough slack in it that you could easily touch the horses neck with out getting the tied down tight. I think most horses need to elevate from the withers up to about 6 to 8 inches from the pole then level out with their face perpendicular to the ground. When they are driving from behind and in this position the tie down will not be enraged . It is only there to prevent the horse from sticking their nose up and hollowing their neck and back . I did not make this one . I have made them but tack making is not my forte.. thanks for asking I appreciate that

When you understand a horse, you will realize that tiedowns should not be used.

I saw in the video description it says he very rarely uses one. And when he does it’s extremely brief. I saw on another video comment someone asked how and when he would use one, I think it’s better to show how to use one properly from his 50 odd years of experience with must be thousands of horses going through him, in the event that someone has the rare horse that they feel they need to use it.

It’s all about perspective and fitting in what needs to happen based on the understanding of the rider . Sometimes is a good word to use when it comes to horse training . I’ve been in you camp of belief but I choose to stay open minded and not get limited by a staunch dogmatic attitude that is different to what my current level of understanding might be at the moment . I find that the keeping all things subject to change leaves the door open to possibility Thank you for taking your time to express your opinion
