I have learned so much from your videos and how you narrate every detail. Watching you work horses at your age(not sure of your age)gives me hope I can continue to work my horse with confidence and reassurance of a safe ride every time. Thank you!!

Your correct. It's the little things that can build to the big things. All of sudden is one of my favorite things I hear. I've said it my self some. Thanks for the reminder.

Wow this needs to be required watching for any rider . I have been looking for a video like this for a long time. Most videos talk about problem horses or starting a horse, but not really much about the ‘normal every day’ horse. Thank you 🙏

What do you do with one that every time you put the saddle on he bucks crazy for a few minutes then he will quit. He has been working with the saddle on for 9 months now but still bucks when you put the saddle on. Ive tried bumping the rope halter very hard with a big no. I'm afraid he has just made it a habit. He doesn't have ulcers or any fitting problems with the saddle. After he is done bucking he listens to everything I ask of him. I also lounge him before I put the saddle on and he still bucks when I put the saddle on. I also don't cinch up the saddle real tight right away either. What is your suggestion for this. Thanks Sheri Thank you for shareing your info.

I'm definitely NOT Dennis, but sounds like you've got what we used to call a cold backed horse. I've had some over 50+ years of horses. Some I've fixed, a few that were great using horses, I've just lunged a few minutes with saddle on and let them get buck out. They never bucked with rider, provided I got that few minutes of lunging done. The ones I fixed, I used my rope like flank strap and made them buck until they decided to quit. Those are usually the ones that want to cut loose and buck with rider too though. Just thinking out loud here, but how often do you work your horse? Daily? Weekly? Is the horse turned out 24/7 or stalled some? What do you feed? What breed/blood lines? How old is your horse, how long under saddle? All of the above can make a big difference with horses. I've "rehabbed/retrained" a lot like this over the years, usually when "ranch" types have gotten real popular like nowadays. Nice, broke using horses that turned broncy simply because they went from being turned out 24/7 eating hay/pasture and ridden 5-6 days week to being stalled some, grain and weekend riding. Hopefully Dennis will weigh in and give a better answer. There's a video series on his KZbin page of a broke horse that was broncy and how he fixed him.

@@tracyjohnson5023 He is only 4 he is turned out daily around 8-10 hrs day weather permitting. I was working him daily. Then I had a bunch of work to do here on the farm so did'nt get to work him much for a few weeks. I need to back up a bit as I purchased him in May this year. He knew pretty much nothing including couldn't even get him to pick up his feet. And he was thin, feet horrible, wormy bad hair coat. But he still had a very kind demeanor to him. So I started out getting hom used to me. Started his training on the line just getting him to circle around me was a challenge, as he would drag me around especially going to the right. I finally got him to actually lounge without pulling and I just have to snap the whip then put it under my arm ask him to come to me and depending on what gait he is in he will either trot to or canter to me and stop. Sometimes I ask him to back up which he does willingly. I also trained him to go sideways along the wall, yield his hind end and forehand. Drop his head when asked. And he is great with all that. I did put a flank rope on him and he bucked like crazy but then eventually stopped when I pulled on it after a few sessions. But every time you put it on he would buck. So I just went ahead and introduced the saddle which I figured he would buck which he did almost the instant he moved with it. So had to keep him away from me. So I guess he is getting better about that. Now he bucks if I ask him to trot and sometimes not till he canters. 1st I had someone get on and off while I have him on a long line, then I had her ask him to walk, but we haven't trotted yet. I also her teach the one rein stop right off the bat which I also did on the ground as well before the saddle was introduced. So far he acts pretty chill with his head low and calm eyes for all of this. I'm not sure when to introduce to trot but I was thinking in a week or 2. She can only come once a week but I have been working him on the ground with bridle, and saddle about 2 times a week and free lounging 2-3 times a week plus his other movements along with that. I have desensitized him which he pretty much has accepted all of that. I guess I just need to give him some time and hope he will eventually stop bucking with the saddle. What do you think? He is just 4 YO so this is all new to him.
