Another idea to add to this. I have a home made game table. The table top is two sided. (two bolts in each corner) One side is painted very similar to this. and the other side is more of the slate grey/black old school dungeon look. All I would have to make is two sets of the walls (and the other goodies which I already have made most of) and voila instant 2.5D next! The only down side is it's not portable. For my group it's perfect because we are always at my place. Perfect. Time to craft some walls. onto the next vid. Thanks again Scotty. Appreciate the time and effort as always. Cheers!

Strongly agree with that second tip. I forgot that step and tried working with just the definition the pen gave the bricks. Came out too blocky and dense. Those stones absolutely need to be round and misshapen on the stamp if you want natural looking design.

You can also use the green flexible cutting mats which you can pick up really cheap from amazon etc, they have plenty of weight in them so they lay flat and you can get 2ft x 3ft or smaller. Fantastic ideas as always DM Scotty, thank you

How well do they take paint?
@zwicky9310 жыл бұрын
theDMsCraft A good spray black undercoat seems to work well to seal it all, I have always tended to do one fine covering then go back and add a second and third if needed on any large surface I've been making, ie when I copy your 2.5 dungeons, as I don't like saturating surfaces.
@zwicky9310 жыл бұрын
theDMsCraft Also I have sent away for some 2ftx3ft mats (I am making a city/town grid, ie roads sidewalks etc, leaving spaces for 2.5 or 3D buildings) if I run into any problems using these mats I'll let you know.

Great video. I'm starting on my journey to duplicate this system now. Unfortunately, the closest Ikea is five hours away, and I've been unable to find those cork placemats online. I can find craft foam easily enough though. Would you recommend sealing it before trying to paint it, particularly for something that might require more coverage, like cavern floors, or a burnt umber undercoat for outdoor mats?
@theDMsCraft9 жыл бұрын
You could use cork mats from the craft store. You shouldn't have to seal it. happy craftin'.

This may be an odd question, but in areas where the nearest Dollar Tree or equivalent is a long way away, what recommendations would you have for finding the same kind of foam core board online? Is there a particular thing to look for?
@theDMsCraft9 жыл бұрын
+Stratplayer05 I like the dollar tree foamboard because the paper pulls off easily but you could soak regular foamcore in water to get the paper backing to come off easier. You could also just use cardbaord and stamp the stone texture on like I did for the Mats.

Hi Scotty There is one thing I don't get with your 2.5 next tiles and floors. Why do you create stamps with grids on? I thought that You had gone gridless, or did I miss something? I can understand making a stamp to create the imitation of copplesstones or even floorplanks, but grid?
@theDMsCraft9 жыл бұрын
evilolle The grid like pattern is pretty broken up so it is not easy to see. We still play like it is gridless.

I have IKEA here in China so I can probably get that cork board but the stamp I'm not sure I can do. We don't have the dollar tree here, perhaps I could buy that foam online. I already went and bought dental plaster and molds before I saw this system (which I think is perfect BTW) so do you think I could use some tiles made from the molds as stamps?
@theDMsCraft8 жыл бұрын
Part of the problem may be that the stuff you cast in the mold may be too hard and not flexible like foamcore so you may not get a good stamp.
@jinniu8 жыл бұрын
I've decided I'll just glue molds together to get those set pieces the right size instead of going through the process of making walls. I was able to find that foam, not sure if its the cheap stuff but I'll find a way to get the paper off if its not, then make those mats. I'll probably make some different styled ones too for sand and adobe houses because I'm putting people though Legacy of Fire right now. Thanks for the inspiration!
@theDMsCraft8 жыл бұрын
Very welcome, soak the foamcore in water and the paper should come off easily.

This new series is looking really cool, however I do have one question. Why the reversal on your Gridless stance? You've been championing the cause of no-grids for years and now all of a sudden you're debuting a new system which very prominently uses grids. What brought about the change of heart?
@Voduchyld10 жыл бұрын
It's hard doing a stone floor without doing the grids, you know, because stone floors are essentially... (drum roll) grids. :D
@AdamBragg10 жыл бұрын
True... but DM Scotty specifically included a one inch grid. He even cut the one inch lines deeper than the stone blocks to ensure they stood out. Also, he choose to do a stone floor that was tiled. There were other styles he could have used, but he didn't. This shows intent, thus I asked why the change of heart regarding grids. His previous videos against grids were almost rants (Sorry Scotty, but it's true, you were a vehement advocate of gridless play). Now we are a shown a new system, with grids, without a single word about it. I'm not slamming DM Scotty. Grids vs. gridless isn't a big issue for me. I'm just curious for the reason behind their inclusion.
@theDMsCraft10 жыл бұрын
Adam Bragg It is really hard to see the squares as individual spaces like a grid. I was only going for a stone pattern. Of course we I don't use a grid but others might want to.
@AdamBragg10 жыл бұрын
theDMsCraft Ah... I suspected as much. Thanks for the answer. Looking forward to your next video about the walls. My wife is 100% sold on this new system, She wants to redo all our terrain in this style! LOL! :-D

How long do the stamps last for? Would it be worth while using the glue gun to waterproof the cardboard on them?
@theDMsCraft7 жыл бұрын
Yes, some of my later tilescapes show this...I now cout two sqaures and glue them together and seal the edge with hotglue. I have never had a stamp wear out...I also remove the paper now so I can soak them in water.
