Story Start ⤵️
Rekha - (calling out) Swati son, oh Swati, please bring my glasses. I have to go to work again too.
Swati - (bringing glasses) Dadi, take these.
Rekha - (smiling) La.
Swati - (hesitatingly) Ahh Grandma, can we play on the swing on the tree in our courtyard today?
Rekha - (scolding) Not at all, how many times have I told you not to even think of going near that tree. If any one of you goes near that Neem tree, no one will be worse than me.
Swati - (scared) Okay grandma.
Rekha - (showing eyes) Now quickly bring me my boiled corn, it is getting late.
narration - Swati gave boiled corn to Rekha which Rekha went out to sell. Rekha was a poor old woman who lived with her five grandsons and granddaughters. His son and daughter-in-law had passed away, after which his condition also worsened. And Rekha had to work even at her old age to feed her grandchildren.
Rekha - (calling out while sitting at the intersection) Hey, take it, take it. Boiled corn full of power for just ten rupees. (wiping sweat) Oh God, no one has come to buy corn since morning. If my corn is not sold then what will I feed the children? They all depend on me.
narration - Rekha sat on the roadside in the scorching heat and waited for the customer to arrive. There was a Shikanji ready next to it, which was crowded with people, but no one was taking the boiled corn from the poor old woman. On one side all this was going on and on the other side in the house.
Swati - (being confused) I don't know why if you talk to grandmother about that Neem tree, why does she get upset? Why does she always stop us from going to her?
Siddharth - (guessing) Sister, maybe grandmother does not like neem trees.
Swati - (Confused) No, if it were so then there are so many Neem trees in our village. Grandmother doesn't even let us play near them. There must be something else.
Aarti - (interrupting) Okay, now leave all this, if grandmother refuses then obey her, okay don't go near that tree.
narration - After listening to Aarti, Swati and other sisters and brothers stopped talking about the tree. But he could not understand what was there in the Neem tree growing in his courtyard that when his grandmother thought about that tree, her senses flew away and she became so nervous.
scene-2
narration - The five sisters, brothers and their grandmother were living their lives in poverty. They were able to survive by eating only the four paisa that grandmother earned by selling corn.
Ananya - (keeping her hand on her stomach) Grandma, what's for dinner today?
Rekha - (telling softly with tears in her eyes) My princess, today all I have to eat is these dry rotis. Eat these only with salt and water. I will definitely feed you something good tomorrow.
narration - Now due to extreme heat, Rekha's corn was not being sold. And there was a shortage in their house too, due to continuous exposure to sunlight, Rekha's health had deteriorated and today she did not go to sell corn.
Rekha - (in agony due to ill health) Alas. Oh God, have mercy, I am the only support for my children.
Varun - (crying) Grandma, what happened to you?
Rekha - (showing herself okay) Nothing my child, I am fine, don't worry.
narration - Rekha was showing herself to be right but her elder granddaughters knew that their grandmother was very ill and needed medicine, but in poverty, the children who had to feed themselves by eating dry food, where could they get their grandmother's medicine. Would have arranged for.
Swati - (getting upset) I don't understand what to do?
Aarti - (giving idea) Listen Swati, neighbor Meera is your friend, borrow some money from her house for grandmother's medicine.
