Same here lol. 1 guy is a minmaxer who I think I taught dnd wrong (dont worry hes not good at minmaxing and everything blows up in his face, making a still fun character. Hes nice and just enjoys power, if he really broke the game we would talk lol, but that wont happen.). We have another person who is always on their phone / doesnt know what they are doing (refuses to read dnd books even, we have to make her characters, super irritating. Still wants to play dnd tho). We have another person who is a mary sue, though he is nice and fun to play a game with. Honestly he brings the other players in on the suedom so even though he hogs the spotlight he lets the other players in a little. (An example character of his is a chaotic evil priest to a lava kracken (havent even said those exist, but whatever dnd is all about the rule of cool) he is a warlock so this kinda works. For a trinket he asked for a lava kracken egg. Aand thats where it got iffy. He managed to do some questing where everyone got an item related to character development (with some nice bonuses) and he wanted the egg. I just told him that it would be a level 14+ quest to hatch it and left it at that. He constantly tried to undermine the other players (while being all dramatic lol) and honestly was fun. But really, a super edgy chaotic evil priest to a lava kracken bent on destroying the party and using weird spell combos like simchains to terraform an entire plane into his dreamscape is kinda borderline marry sue). Next person is a guy who always plays monk, and doesnt know how monks work (insists on brass knuckles even tho it isnt a monk weapon, or a weapon at all. I just reflavor a quarterstaff). This guy never puts any character into the monk and just makes some quirk like "has a broken leg, loves running and jumping". The character manages to develop but its slow in the beginning. The last guy is a DM for some games I have played (we dm the same group, when one of us doesnt wanna run a campaign we let the other boi run his campaign, works out great). He is obsessed with magic the gathering and will constantly make characters inspired by that (super fun, not direct theft just inspired). Honestly this is probbably one of my fav players cuz he roleplays well and all that, but hes a dm so he kinda knows what dms hate and dont hate.

Lesson learned: polymorph and negotiations for krakens.

Eh it's a concentration spell. A simple big wave could be enough to undo the polymorph and then the kraken would reappear on the boat killing everyone on it by sinking them. Miles from land. Pretty big risk. Alternatively choosing a form too weak could kill it, thus returning the creature to it's original form. So say a cat in an ocean, that would drown in a few minutes if it weren't for the boat for instance. There's a lot of ways the DM could have averted this disaster (even going as far to simply add in "oh yeah this one has magical resistance because reasons"), but hey if the players had fun I guess it's not all bad.

@@Madhattersinjeans Yeah, overall, fun IS the point of a game. I'd say if it makes the encounter funnier or more immersing to have the cat drown then attack, or have the polymorph reflect off the kraken's hide like the terrasque, and transform your druid into a cat for a round, that works too.

@Boruch Arnold Do you watch a channel called Dingo's Doodles? She does (but not limited to) D&D videos too and one of her characters is a monkey-human guy called Sips. He's a spellcaster that has a chance to do random magic spells if certain criteria is met. Most notably he almost destroyed an entire city when he sang karaoke as his random magic made it possible to null all magic within a given distance freeing a gigantic Terrasque imprisoned under the city when it's magical prison failed and the beast ran amok. Why would singing karaoke cast magic? Watch her video, they're pretty good (if you haven't already). This is just one of "those" times, and because Puffin and Dingo collaborate at times we're pretty sure Sips magic nullifying powers were the instigator of this little scenario by introducing Dingo's characters in his campaign.
