This reminds me of one of my games where I had an incubus who worked in a brothel. The PC's didn't have to pay for their services, but they had to sign a waiver in case they died lol. I had it where you needed to roll a con save, and depending on how high you rolled, you would have a certain number of exhaustion points. The deciding rolls for that was by increments of 5, so essentially if you rolled a 4 or lower you instantly died from 6 points of exhaustion, and the higher you rolled, the better off you were. Well... the monk decided to risk it and he rolled a 5, so he had 5 levels of exhaustion and had to sleep in the room for 2 days before he could even limp out the room lol. I even warned the player "this has a chance to instantly kill you, are you sure?" But he insisted he wanted to risk it.

This partly reminds me of a character I had played during the second season of a homebrewed campaign. Volken Verloss the Tiefling. He never knew his father, and his succubes mother was stolen from him at a young age. He was forced to flee his home, and for years attempted to search for his family (he was 6 at the time, and 19 when he was introduced). By the end of the campaign, it had turned out that not only was the BBEG the one who had stolen her from him, but turns out was also his father, and was going to use her as leverage against Volken to force him under his thumb. In the end, being loyal to his only loving relative, Volken struck down his Drow father and saved his mother. Volken and her now travel with the help of a Well of Many Worlds to find a home that will be safe for them, and where they can live their days together with undying love for one another.

I want to quickly clarify some of the confusion I'm seeing in these comments regarding succubi and vampires (because I'm a big enough nerd that I can). It is true that older lore stated that one would become a True Vampire following their survival of a succubus' soul-stealing kiss (with some caveats). This is out of date information in regards to 5e, where there is no such occurrence, although I'm all on board with house-ruling it back in, because it's bloody awesome. There are two requirements, however. The primary one is that the succubus must actually be in love with the character in question, which is no small achievement in itself. Additionally, the character must survive the soul-stealing kiss. If they die, they die, and that's the end of it. The combination of these two makes the occurence both extremely rare and extraordinarily noteworthy.

The last time I used a succubus, it was actually a succubus SPIRIT possessing a poor human. So when they killed the hapless vessel, the spirit searched for another female with high charisma, and wouldn't you know it, we had a elven sorceress with high Charisma stat. It took a bit before the player caught on to the clues I was giving about her being possessed, since it was a passive posession that the succubus was doing as a game to alleviate its boredom (and potentially corrupt a mortal soul).

Im with something similar right now, like 5 sessions ago my dragonborn bard Rogan was defeated by demons and throw into the 4th circle of hell, what the party doesnt know and i fix with him is that he still alive as a revenant in hell trying to find a way to comeback, and now a succubus is following him too since she sees him as an unataniable prize. He will comeback in a few sessions with his new living corpse tricks

I used to worry... BUT then I started preaching (at my Table anyways) that the terms aren't "random combats"... It's "random encounters" and not everything is necessarily spoiling for blood. I've since had lots of perfectly peaceable encounters in-game. That "accidentally rolled monster"... might just need a place to take a leak without a whole group staring and gawking at him/her... it... whatever. AND even Demons might need to go grocery shopping or have other run of the mill errands... SO if the PC's are out of their league, it's okay to signal it (a little meta never hurts) and let the Players decide not to get too blood-thirsty for their own good. I know... a game without any combat isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea either... BUT we (GM's) don't have to bear all the responsibility for getting someone killed unnecessarily. Players can learn when and when NOT (most importantly) to engage... as well as how to go about engaging. ;o)

gnarth d'arkanen Demons are immortal (like Celestials and other fiends), not requiring food or drink, and automatically respawn back in their native plane when they are brought to 0 hp in a different plane. Fiends (other than Erinyes) also cannot enter the material plane unless summoned by a mortal person. These two features mean that encounters involving demons are basically combat, regardless of whether the player thinks that what is happening is combat.

@@theDMLair I think 5e doesn't have a proper entry for them at the moment, so technically they fall under the Cambion umbrella for now. More specifically, they're the daughter of a succubus and a mortal male. Typically speaking, they inherit their mother's looks, natural skill in manipulation, and some degree of inherent magical ability. The thing that makes them more ideal for my character than a Cambion (in this case meaning the male offspring) is that they are far less naturally inclined towards evil. For whatever reason, they share the succubi's innate drive to gain companionship and form bonds and connections, but they lack their mothers' abusive, malevolent streak. When the succubus is the "custody holding" parent (which is typically the case), this often gets leveraged against the alu-fiend. The succubus essentially manipulates her child with the lure of parental approval and affection, while using the alu-fiend as a pawn in whatever plots she happens to be working. Typically speaking, these alu-fiends do end up being quite evil once all is said and done, though they're certainly victims themselves. Alu-fiends raised by their fathers, assuming that dad isn't also a BBEG or a spiteful prick, tend to have a better shot at life. Their more positive aspects can be nurtured, and they can end up becoming genuinely quite kind and protective.

I'd have been passing Nigel some notes about how much he REALLY wanted to do things that seemed not too bad of an idea... but were aiding the succubus due to the succubus' charm effect. And not telling the source of the charm. And I'd have been looking for opportunities for bringing in succubi, incubi or cambion shape changed to be attractive to the others to play the same game with them. Once the whole party is charmed... send them off like puppets to do things that are promoting the plans of the fiends.

Went better for the bard than the one in my groups campaign if you can believe it. We are randomly dropped into sigil and directed to an inn where we can stay and our parties bard sees a succubus having a drink there, in her natural form, and decides to try chat her up gaining her attention and planting him in the crosshairs of her appitites resulting in her using her abilities to enthral him, luckily he also tried to enthral her with his music at the same time and succeeding, avoiding having his soul become desert due to the DM was pulling fully from real world succubus lore, but the damage was done. Cue several sessions later and the bards player having to leave the group and a portal opening up with a familiar fiendish hand beckoning him to come which his character did, can't remember if anyone tried to stop him, but months, maybe a year later real world time and multiple visits to sigil later 2 party members find out all this time he has been kept as a food source for said succubus and she had just used up the last of his soul resulting in his death and both other characters barely escaping the succubus during the investigation. They ending up saving their necks after getting on the succubus' bad side by convincing the manager of the inn we stayed in during our visits to sigil to throw the succubus out of the portal that was set up in the inn into the underdark with some inn rule quoting who quickly became food for a mindflayer infected dragon (can't remember official name).

Waaaait, wait wait wait wait. You have a dead PC that hooked up with a succubus and gave her an army in an ongoing campaign. Here's how you get that 10% ideea be a 1% masterpiece: Nigel in death has become a demon and the partner in crime of said succubus, an incubus if you will. I have a similar story with a tiefling bard (female) seducing a succubus, it resulted in her slowly becoming a succubus without her noticing up to a step before the player would loose the character to fully becoming a demon, the rest of the game was an interesting balancing act of the PC having to "appease" her now mostly demonic nature (because if she didn't she'd "starve") without completely falling into demonhood .

@@primarchstar2087 Initially she got the party wanted as her finally finding out what she was becoming (after failing to notice for 3 months, not by failure of the dice, but idiocy) by killing an archduke she was having an affair with. Then she had to manage to persuade the party that she was still herself and it was not worth ditching her for getting into trouble for trying to seduce anything they came across. Classic name clearing plus a comical abstinence arc that nearly starved her to death, followed by a demon priest telling her what she was (who she killed by smashing her guitar repeatedly onto his head) Followed by acceptance (which almost got het through the edge as she thought that if she only killed bad guys she'd be fine but it turns out that she would be bound to the will of the succubus if she turned, overwriting her will. Lots of other stuff followed with the succubus teasing and pestering her with summoned familiars and even imposing irreversible transformations to turn her into a "living sculpture of seduction". Her realizing that she can't fight using holy powers as it harmed her as much as her "master" if used on either one. All leading up to near the end (where I allow my players to go op because I end my campaigns with some good old fashioned god killing) where she manages to reverse the contract, becoming the mistress of the succubus, allowing herself to become a full devil without losing her mind and will. She ended up as the queen of the concept of necessary evil. Also a harem of anyone who she seduced to serve her for eternity. All in all, started out with bad rolls and outright STUPIDITY from my players, and ended up quite well. Well... A party member became a lich to avoid becoming her servant.

Id want to say that it is a 10% idea but at the same time, in the monster manual, that is exactly how sucubus act: they find a victimg, they great a personality and appear in their dreams. Then they make their actiual entrance, seduce the victim (possibly without charming them because they want it to be sincear so that the soul of the victim is totally devoted to them) to the point that the person does anything that the sucubis tells him/her withiut needing magical charminh and then make their move on whatever their plan is. What you did is basically that but without the preparationnal dream part

My character was a changeling rogue who I multi-classed into a Hex Blade Warlock early on, at around like level 5, the story went into the feywild where my DM introduced a powerful Archfey champion (she’s kind of like a goddess of the hunt like Artemis or something) who ended up being my patron my character at this point was frustrated with the fact that he felt inadequate to the party. He had a high intelligence stat and Charisma along with Dexterity I rolled well on him he had worse wisdom and strength however and his constitutional was pretty average at a plus two. So when we were traveling through the fey wild to resurrect a slain party member an Archfey offers her help but in exchange she wanted the first born child of one of the party members, the party were hesitant but my rogue, who had a cunning idea and nothing to lose decided to volunteer he had signed a pact with her which revived his friend but the pact never mentioned the life for a life, sacrifice your kid type thing it just mentioned that “she wanted his first born”, so he asked “so when do we start” and she asked “what do you mean?” He chuckled “you said you wanted my first born?” and she was like “oh...” and now my character is a hex blade warlock who has an attractive Archfey Huntress as his patron.

Yes Nigel died. However his soul was consumed buy a devil or demon what are those two. And a succubus fled back to the abyss or nine Hells one of those two. And the succubus still dearly loves Nigel. I'll let you connect the dots. Let's just say I'm not done with Nigel and his succubus. :-)

See this is a brilliant solution for the characters who want to nail every bar wench and noble woman they meet. You could even make it a running thing. --The succubus is quite taken by the bard's advances when she first crosses paths with him in the village. For a creature of pure desire, the night of torrid passion was intoxicating. So she pursues him. Taking different forms in each city, a bar made or a lady of the night, on and on it goes. But she has a deeper purpose than just carnal delights, after each night she returns to the hell from wince she came to birth their child for her lord's army, and returns (for time runs differently in the Hells). On and on it goes until one day, (when the army is big enough) she confesses to her lover who she really is. Offers him a place at her side leading the armies of their children if only he'll love her in return!-- It'd be a helluva twist, possibly a great way to steal a player into being a villian or at least set up what might be a dramatic, gut wrenching battle. haha! Thank you for feeding my idea machine!!!

In all honesty I would not put much effort into trying to convince my friends to play. What happens if you do finally convinced them might just be that they play out of social obligation and aren't very invested in the game at all. It might be a better approach to just try to find strangers who actually want to play D&D. You can do this online all over the place of course. What happens then is that you get people who are invested in the game and want to play the game. And it's going to often make the game a lot better quality than if you were to just have friends who really didn't want to play and who were only there because they kind of got strong-armed into doing so.

3.5e rules rogue3rd/wizard8th CR:11 BAB+6 diplomacy/bluff: 6ranks each. spell Polymorph Self "large dragon." And the spell caster may have to polymorph the huge dragon down to large size to get any safe action going. Or just turn the dragon into a human.

@@thewolfstu back in AD&D2e 20 some years ago I play a wizard who got off a lucky spell on a young adult green dragon and turn her into a human woman. Miss Clover was part time NPC/ to PC, depending on how many players we had a given night at the game shop. Miss Clover love calling PC Paladins that detect evil on her murder hobos. Then 3e came out, and my wizard became a daddy of four. Ran a campaign setting where green & red dragons would court sorcerers & wizards to create half-dragons as pawns for political social status . Young dragons can't cast polymorph till they are mature or near ancient, so they seek out spell caster to help them build up their treasure hoards. The two game shops I use to play at had us flip a coin to decide your character gender. This started with AD&D and 3e. I got stuck as a woman and my tenth level party was found by a dragon on a random encounter chart roll. So I had my character turn into a dragon to make a deal with the dragon. In one game I trick a male player RP a male rogue into use a Scroll of Baneful Polymorph Other on him self, to turn into a female red dragon. I lie to him, saying what the scroll does with my Bluff skill roll and he was his skill Use Magic Device. " Mr. Rogue became Lady Crimson, and Lord Red Dragon will like ti say, " Heellooo...!" Our DM had to get up and leave the table for awhile , and some of us had to just lay down on the ground. In another game I played a male rogue that was really neutral evil at deed and heart. Grew up as a poor pig farmer. He fell in love with a Night Hag. After trading a bunch of souls to a devil pit fiend to buy a Wish. He became a night hag him/ her self.

I actually played in a one shot campaign where there was a fiend warlock that tried and succeed in seducing a winged demon, so this is totally something he would do. Just fyi, this warlock played like a glamour bard.

I have a similar plan. A succubus that disguise herself as a matron of a brothel of worshippers of Graz'zt will try to get closer to my party paladin in order to charm him and have a child. We are playing 3.5 so if he will fall for the succubus he will become a black guard. I can't wait to see what will happen.

One of my players had in his back story that his young wife went missing only a few weeks into their marriage, and his ultimate goal was to find her. This was with the players starting at level 1. Once they had reached the right level (~8), I worked their "reunion" into a canned module I was using, "S4: Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth." Semi-SPOILER: This adventure ends with the players discovering a central chamber, within which a beautiful female knight is sleeping, once seemingly only awoken with a kiss. But all is not as it seemed, of course... So, I substituted this NPC with the player's missing wife. Those who know this adventure can imagine the chaos that ensued afterwards!

DM: make a party of adversaries and slowly introduce them as NPC here and there, but the are after the party... Equal to or a little less then the players, villains arch-nemesis the counterbalance of a party and then let them fight one way or another???

@@fhuber7507 actually it is from deeper lore of the world of dnd. But it has to be from a succubus that has fallen totally in love with someone. And then they have to kiss the succubus and survive their soul snatching kiss. It's not as easy as survive the kiss of a succubus. And that kiss isn't meant to charm too.

Better yet, they don't have to be villains. A few of the cambions could be neutral mercenaries, or long-conners. After all, it was a hero who made them, so helping heroes out to potentially gain favour and gain a few more cambions to their ranks could be a neat idea. THEY can be the villains :D

A handful but the real trick is improvising them on the Fly. You just start talking in a weird way and you stick with it. And then the ones that your players really love those are the ones you keep with and put in to your repertoire. Like my Gary the intern voice. Players love that crap. Or my Barbarian voice apparently that one is well-loved is also

I have a question. How do you handle secrets that only one pc knows. Do you use secret notes, good roleplaying or something else.

I usually take the player into a different room to briefly discuss. Then reply on the player to RP it. Notes work too after the initial discussion has happened.

Honesty, it might not be the best beginner DM dungeon. It's fun, but not linear and a new DM might not know how to handle a couple of the situations. But It's not long, either so it might be worth a try.

I'd have had a trap set, by the succubus. When the heroes shows up with weapons, have the Lady cry for guards. The guards come in, and arrest the adventurers for attempted murder of a noble Lady. They lose prestige, money, maybe equipment and go to jail. That starts an dventure where the group must provide the Lady is not what she seems

It sounds like a great setup for a future enemy. I think in the old MM2 for Ad&d they also had another offspring of human and demon that was specifically female and they were surprisingly strong. It would be a fun trick to throw at the players, that while the cambions were gone, their sisters still roam the 9 hells.

How would you deal with players who don't want to play any form of negatives for their characters? For example I'm playing a game where we currently have characters who are maxed in combat stats. Using the points buy system so max possible in the three main (Fighter is con/str/DeX). But while not in combat encounters the two characters, paly and fighter have 8 int each. They roleplay that they are batman's levels of deduction, and they've said "my character should know this about X" I've asked them to explain how their int score is so low but its the standard. If it was a basic 0 modifier I would just say they are average person but they specifically put their int and wisdoms to have a disadvantage. Do I just ignore it for rp purposes and just add more creatures into combat to deal with the weaknessess?

I would make them make INT checks (Investigation, History, etc.) to see what their characters actually know. Then their dump stats will do the job they refuse to RP. And then when they fail, tell them their characters don't actually know those things. If they refuse to play along, shoot maybe even make them reasign their ability scores to reflect how they are roleplaying.
