The fact that you built it and you made a lesson of it is magnificent , you must be a good teacher

That is a very nice compliment. I did the lesson with this model two weeks ago and all the students were focused on the story... a great succes!

Thank you Chris! It was.. a lot of work, it was what you said a project of love. It is my favorite subject and I absolutly loved to create something near it. So I started planning and building and created this. It is now in my bedroom and I don't see it anymore, so yes I agree that it must be in a museum to show the people the battle, the start of the second front against Nazi Germany. We must never forget that.

Wow! Erg mooi gemaakt. 1: 35 is een prima verhouding voor een educatieve display. Ik ga ook eens op zoek naar 1: 35 Higgins boten...

Awesome job. Tip on painting 1/35 scale figures. Don’t worry about the whites of the eyes. Just a dot of color is all you need. Also a little panel liner on the face makes the features pop.

Tip: Roll a ball of aluminium foil and roll sturdy against the rockface, gives nice effect. Some spackle can work too. By the way, nice subject. I'm from 1963, making models all my life, and my favourite movies: The Longest Day, and the saving of private Ryan. I know the place, Vierville etc. Been there. I'm slowly working on a small Falaise diorama.

Hey Duco, thank you for your tips! You have a long way of building already. I am still learning the small techniques. I did read something of the sides of the model, but it disappeared, or you didn't post it.

The choice of Omaha as a name is morbid. Omaha is a large city in Nebraska famed as a meat processing town, especially cows. Did they know it would be a slaughterhouse?

Omaha was indeed a place that was already not chosen to land for the Allies. However, the high command wanted to use an extra landing to help the other beaches and to strengthen the front. So the high command knew that this was going to be a tough battle, or the name Omaha might have been named after it.

Those figures that come with the Trumpeter LCVP are pretty bad, they look like they have different scale arms.
@ngbuilds7590
@ngbuilds7590 Жыл бұрын
Agreed on that! They have vast arms, so this is a great note to change on the model. Thankyou Len.

I often wonder why a nation as wealthy as the USA did not supply its soldiers with even the most basic bullet proof vest on this fateful day.😢

Don't forget El Alamein nearly simultaneous with Stalingrad.

Not in any way as decisive as Stalingrad.The battle of Stalingrad gave Montgomery an advantage when a lot of resources like fuel, transport airplanes, armor, ammunition and manpower was diverted there. Losses in the second battle of El Alamein: Axis, 9,000 dead, 15,000 wounded, and 30,000 captured of 110,000 troops. Axis losses in the battle of Stalingrad some 747,300-868,374 combat casualties. Germany: 300,000-400.000 (6th Army and 4th Panzerarmy) Italy: 114,000 Romania: 109,000 Hungary: 143,000 Hiwi 19,300-52,000 495 axis aircraft destroyed 1,500 axis tanks destroyed (100 Romanian) 6,000 axis guns destroyed

@@ngbuilds7590 really? :D Ok I always thought this was basic knowledge of WW2.. Also the "First" defeat wasnt stalingrad. It was Moscow. Germans got bogged down and never advanced there after 41. I like your effort ! Keep modelling But Omaha beach wasnt the bloodiest.. its just the most known due to hollywood and the US beaing the loud guy in the room. ;) Check out the other beaches and the casualty numbers. Also there were no cliffs at Omaha. only on the far right side and on Point du Hoc. kinda misconception due to hollywood again and pc games. check out some pictures and you see its a little elevated but no cliffs and also very very wide. the landing started at low tide so the men had a few hundred meters to walk from the LCAs (there were alost NO LCVPs in Normandy because they were needed in the pacific, so it was mainly british landing crafts even on "American beaches") and stuff until they got to the grass. Just as info. Check out WW2TV here on youtube. Its historians that live in Normandy that go to historical places with cameras and debunk myths etc. great stuff to learn from. Grüße aus Deutschland
