Défi Wind 2019 - 2nd Race - gaining 50 places on the last leg!

After a bad start (stuck with no wind), i recovered more than 200 places on race 2.
The last leg (on the video) was great, doing the jibe outside and passing 15 guys by leeward and then going at full speed, recovering more 30-35 places.
I finished this race on the 252th place (not good...) and 198th on the overall

I cannot imagine how exhausting this race would be, I start getting sore after a few km on one tack! I hope to one day race at the Defi though! Great video, thanks for sharing!

On top of training it's important to use almost all effort through the harness (not the arms) and change your position every 1-2 minutes (ie: front arm i am changing its position every time). Hope it helps :)

@@POR11RS Absolutely! I’ve tried the uphaul trick too, but really getting the harness lines balanced is definitely key. I will be continuing to train, but where I live in the States we don’t have lots of wind all the time, so I make do with what we have!

Thanks Bob! Starboard Isonic 107 + Neilpryde EVO X 6.4 + fin Select Rhino 37cm (i normally use a bigger fin than recomended). Gopro Hero 4. 👍

@@POR11RS I hear you about fin size. I like plenty of lift myself, Use a 40cm with 7.8 when most would go with a 37cm. Did you go wide on that gybe mark to stay away from the congestion?

Exactly. If you stop there you can lose 10 or more places. If you fall, it is almost impossible to do waterstart with so many sails blocking the wind. You can lose more than 50 or 100 places depending on the time you take to get some wind to waterstart.

Nice footage and great sailing. Seems you use your harness lines a bit to the back. Was the track a bit downwind?

Marco Bal thanks! It's the effect of the gopro. In reality, the harness lines are exactly on the middle of my hands

Nice! Never seen someone use the uphaul rope like that before. Is that to get the sail a bit further forward when underpowered?

Hi Andy. That's right. It's used a lot in Formula windsurfing and also on foiling. As soon i am underpowered, i use the uphaul, the rig gets more vertical and you gain 2-3 knots of wind...it's easier to learn with stable winds :)
