The camera unit itself, no that's not rechargeable. The power brick he plugged into it is.

It was working excellent when i was using 4g wifi net (2.4ghz). After i got new wifi which is 5g (5ghz) the camera wasnt able to work. although the 5g wifi has two ways to connect (5 ghz and 2.4 ghz). I connected to the 2.4 ghz but still cannot work ... so sad about it because my home has 5 same cameras 😢

It took a long, long time to set up but finally got this to connect. Camera worked for 3 days then stopped working. Now it will not reconnect to my wi-fi. As it is "binding" phase, it stops about 1/4 of the way through the says it failed to connect. I don't understand. Any experience with this problem? I am ready to take it back to the store. I am connecting to an Android phone.

Hi, mine is still going strong. You might have a faulty unit. If you just bought it I would take it back for a replacement.

after setting up the "event" when movement is detected, you will need to set up the "action" you can either have it send you a notification or record it or both.

Your problem will have to do with the router you have. You need to open the ports on some routers.

I just need real time / livestream viewing in case she falls or to coach her through things - from her apt. to both my sister and me. There's no need for recording or storage in an sd card or cloud. So I don't want a monthly fee of any kind. I need more of a nanny cam viewable through several phones (both iphone and android) - long distance. Is this a good camera for that or is it more than I need? Is there something else you would reccomend? Also, I need 5g.

Hi Vicki, not a problem. This camera is brilliant for what you want. Realtime viewing is included and if you put an inexpensive microsd card in the camera you will also have a record of what has been recorded. A 16GB memory card (OPTIONAL) will cost you $5 or £5, I don't know where you are located. The camera supports the 5GHz band so not a problem there. D-Link has apps for both iPhone and Android phones which is perfect for you. The only requirement is that you create an account on their website so you can use it within the apps. Hope this helps. P.S. Cloud storage is so that you can have a record offsite, say something physically happened to the camera, the recordings would still be intact as they are on the D-Link's servers. If that makes sense to you? This incurs costs for them that is why they charge you. It's pretty much like that with any online storage service.

I've been setting up a DCS-8600 for my grampa. Everything's working just fine but the kotion detection doesn't work. For some reason it does not send us any notifications if it detects movements. I've deleted and reopeend the account, registrated the camera after removing it several times and looked at every single setting but nothing seems to work. Notifications are activated and it never gives off any, even when outside the house.

@@everything_tech I'm limited on the amount of devices I have.. So I figured out where to find the motion detection. I made sure all boxes were highlighted, but can't seem to figure it all out. Is there another setting? I closed my phone but kept the cam on, but still no emails saying anything was recorded or pics were taken

just set ur automation rule to home , away or sleep it should always be recording, unless u put it on privacy mode , then it won't record.

You cannot record to SD card full video. Only short motion/sound detection. This camera is 100% a joke. Notice they never list that on the box anywhere? How this is never covered on this video i have no idea.. D-link has become the scum of the smart world. Dont list an item as a camera with SD storage if it can only record small clips of motion. Easy.
