According to the world bank, Malaysia may reach a high income nation by 2028 if not by 2030. Only a decade late. Hopefully Dr M will live long enough to see it.

SG only chooses what they want to do and are capable of at their own pace. So any changes in policy on the Malaysia side, SG will minimise losses. This is nothing new. SG government already has been doing so. Look at how many companies are owned or have shares in JB in particular and Malaysia in general. Only Malaysia sees this as a big thing, but SG is investing globally and Malaysia is one of the stops. They are working closely in many aspects with other countries like Australia, Holland and Vietnam to name a few across continents.
To avoid political storm created by PNPAS 🇸🇬 steps in timely to co-develop JS-SEZ designated Zone in Johore State only. Beyond Johore is higher risk investment areas. Putrajaya would be packed with frogs🐸 &🐒 monkeys if change of government takes place.
Seemingly, this is a mutual beneficial working relationship. However, we know that we are tapping into SG advancement and well connectedness globally. We thought we are offering land and other resources that sg can't refused but they are already partnering with other nations to overcome their shortages and other shortcomings. If this is nice working model, why not set up one in the north with Thailand, they have a bigger economy and might be cheaper too.
Don't place high hope on bumi workforce(majorities) as they have to make up their time for prayers. The employers have to take some consideration of essential prayers for the muslims.

Actually Singaporeans should manage their expectations and not asking for whatever Malaysians cannot offer given the education level, socioeconomic conditions or even race and religion issues in background. The so called special economic zone is probably best used to further expansion to offer halal certified industries, Islamic finance or shariah compliance education system, which can actually be useful to offer more for Muslim consumers globally. Other than these, I don't think the zone can be very useful, unless they think it's OK to offer locals premium while being less productive, letting ppl free ride like quota of bumiputera shares in company etc. Managing expectations is like reality check.
