Hi all, I'm having trouble figuring out why I can play licks containing an F Note over this and still sound good. I'm not too strong on my theory, but as far as I can tell none of the chords contain an F?

D MIXOLYDIAN is a MODE GENERATED IN THE V (five) degree of the G major scale. So, the chord that characterizes it is the D7 (D major with minor seventh). When you play the F note, which is a minor third, you sound bluesy. Try using the entire minor pentatonic scale (D- F-G-A-C) over playback. It will sound bluesy. If you want to sound more mixolydian, use the notes of the chart, but take care of the perfect fourth, in this case the G note.
