Hello ! New upload after a long period of inactivity: the great Toccata by Nenov. I want to apologize for the terrible quality of the score.

I love this, there's something very special about this piece that I never heard before. Nenov and Bartók somewhat had the same goal of mixing Eastern European folk music with the classical tradition but they achieved it in such different ways

I can't stop replaying, it's too good it's going in the learning in 15 years list 😭
This is one of those pieces that's so exceptional I can believe it hasn't entered the wider pool of common piano repertoire. Terrific writing for the instrument, interesting structure, catchy tunes, and most of all - it really doesn't sound like anything else (barring the fact that you can hear some potential Bartok and Prokofiev influences). Ugh, it's so good. The orchestra version is equally good - loses the violence of the piano version but gains quite a bit of scope.

You should listen to vladgeriovs toccata as well which also has an orchestral version coincedentally

well... unfortunately we, people from Bulgaria, are not famous enough abroad (like other composers from western countries)...

What year was this written? Seems inspired by Prokofiev’s Toccata (1911)
@SeigneurReefShark2 жыл бұрын
I think it was written in 1939

Yes, there are a lot of quotes of Prokoviev

@@emmanuelsales149 Many find resemblances, mostly because of the genere and the kind of usage of the instrument that's typical for the early 20th century. What this piece is actually influenced by, is Bulgarian folclore traditions in terms of rythm and modes, although this is purely original music, and not based on folclore themes. It's actual inspiration roots within ancient pagan traditions and rituals. I know very well both this Toccata and the Prokofiev's one, both very much favourite pieces, and as much different. "Resemblances" are as much as Beethoven 1 resembles Mozart 21.
@malenasheytanova99672 жыл бұрын
@@emmanuelsales149 + the year of creation is unclear, since he's been playing it by heart for many years, without giving it any effort to write down the scores. 1939 is the year it's been written in scores and published, not the year it was actually created. There's no clear evidence when exactly it was created, since the artefacts about Nenov are very scarce, people are trying to research on the matter, there are scientific projects open currently. Nenov's an actual genious, and one of the brightest talents of his time. The only reason he's not know at all to global audience, unlike his russian contemporaries, is that he was bulgarian.

Obviously a Balkan take on the Prokofiev toccata. This comfortably supersedes it. Nenov's best work IMO until someone can recommend me something better.

Molto ingegnoso ma priva di qualsiasi idea minimamente cantabile, sognante o contenente qualsiasi tipo di incipit che possa condurre alla bellezza.
@AsrielKujo2 жыл бұрын
mah, comprendo cosa dici ma comunque alla fine è soltanto una toccata, quindi onestamente non ci devono essere tutti gli elementi musicali che magari cercheresti in una sonata per esempio
@parcivalg.56592 жыл бұрын
