This song is just one of those that confuses you why it was chosen for the series. Arrangement-wise and lyric-wise, it's unconventional and unique but after a few listens and watching or reading the series, it just hits you why it was chosen. The arrangement and themes of the lyrics fit so well in the series. The OP visuals were perfect too.

Commenting for my future self. Tokyo Ghoul changed my life; it is, for me, utter perfection. I have never read, nor will I ever read, anything better-I'm sure of it. Saying that this manga saved my life isn't an exaggeration. I feel so connected to this world and these characters that it's almost like I can't think about it in terms of fiction anymore because of how well-written the story is. I can easily imagine the world described and envision what is it like out there.; the atmosphere really sinks into the reader. I'm so grateful to Sui Ishida for all of this. I'm glad the anime came out. The adaptation overall was bad, that's for sure, but there is one thing that overcomes every mistake they made: the music. Music in Tokyo Ghoul is divine; the emotions I feel when listening to any of the ost give me chills and quicken my heartbeat. It's just great; it helps so much with connecting to the story, and I'm glad it exists. If there is ever going to be a remake, and it won't have the same ost-it won't be good enough for me. But this song... it's something out of this world. It makes me feel things I can't describe, crying is hard for me but this song makes it particularly easy; that's why I'm commenting under this specific song.

Here's an interpretation attempt from my friend and I. *I had a dream of the time we were born. We lived beautifully in the city of wombs. Clapped our hands and laughing.* - Children of sin (referring to children of prostitution in this song, and ghouls in the anime) were born. Without knowing what they would eventually go through, they spent their early days happy. *We drank up the paint and the colors of the rainbow changed. We began to want to be embraced and became unable to walk alone.* - They found out the truth and discovered what they really were. They can no longer see things the same way. They wanted to be accepted and not be alone. *We laughed at each other, devoting our love to toys. Those untouchable children, I want to break them with easy words.* - They focused their attention on each other and things that distract them, trying to ignore reality. They feel strong jealousy/hatred towards children who have luckier lives than them, who do not have to go through the things that they do. *The prostitute set fire. In a faraway town, someone died.* - Set fire = commited the sin. "In a faraway town, someone died." - He could be referring to himself, the victim of the sin. *Beckoned to by lemmings (a rodent), we arrive at this world's end. Please don't get any stronger, amidst the pollution. A siren rang out, driving me mad. I'll always be waiting in the depths of that theme park. You know, the way heaven is structured.* - They have reached the end of the road, with nowhere else to go. They no longer want to stay strong, amidst this insane world. Suicidal thoughts came. "Waiting in the depths of that theme park" = afterlife (where they can have fun and play again) *I drank my bile back in, as iron rain came pouring down. Papa and Mama were mistaken, numbers can no longer be overturned/changed. (this is a more accurate translation)* - He swallowed back his feelings, and continued to live on, accepting the abuse (the iron rain) from others. The mistakes of the past (from his parents) can no longer be undone. *You've just been praying this whole time, haven't you? Giving water to artificial flowers.* - You have been praying (watering) to a god that won't save you/isn't real. (fake flowers) (When i realised this, it was a EUREKA moment) *We laughed scornfully together. Devoting our love to that body.* - These last few lines, it seems like they eventually started to accept themselves, and have the courage to live. *With the breaths of those sheep, I want to burn that worthless picture book.* - It could be referencing Sen Takatsuki's book "The Black Goat's Egg" - where the goat represents ghouls/children of sin, and the sheep in the song probably represents "normal" humans. (since goats and sheep are closely related but different) This line could mean, with verbal abuse/comments coming from "normal" people around him, he really wants to burn his past, and leave it behind. *We lit a flame in our bodies. I'm sure you can hear it well enough to drive you mad. It's telling us to live.* - Although he lit a flame to burn and forget his past/origins, he can still hear it deep down within him, but the flame reminds him to continue living. I'm pretty satisfied with this. This is one of my favourite songs, and now that i have broken it down, i appreciate it even more!

KukyOtaku Gordillo its not (?) Hide represents kaneki's humanity, wich is why he takes them off. This is like the last ep of √A, Hide appears, and gives kaneki's humanity (his hair turns black) but when he dies, he cries a bloody tear from his left eye. I get that you think its Touka 'cause she is the main female protagonist, but that wouldn't make sense, she isn't even human how would she even be someone else's humanity? [Also, in the √A's poster (where Kaneki is holding a corpse (Hide's)) it was said to the artist to draw his hands in a way you cant say if it is from a male or female, that's why the hands are androgynous]
