Thank you uploading this precious video. I never tire of watching scenes of life in an earlier Japan. What is the dialect the grandparents are speaking? Is it an early kansaiben or osakaben? The grandmother is especially remarkable to listen to.
Don't get it why the daugther-in-law is so resentful or she doesnt feel deserving of all the love their father and mother in law have for her... She kinda feel guilty about something...

A long tradition of Japan was that japanese wife marry husband with his family and serve to his parent more than her own parent. She had a little time to serve to her husband so that it was very natural to serve to his parent until she marry again. This tradition is more common among the upper class of ancient Japan.

She feels that moving on is inherently shameful despite being told it's ok to do so by the very people she'll have to leave behind. She's not resentful, she is extremely selfless and benevolent.
