A higher string tension Gives you more touch and control. However, this is only if you are able to consistently hit the sweet spot in the middle of the racket. The sweet spot is smaller the more you increase your tension. You therefore need to have great technique and timing, with the ability to generate a fast swing speed in your hitting action. The higher the tension you have, the quicker your strings are likely to break. This is of course dependent on the string you choose. A lower string tension The string bed will be looser (like a trampoline) so the strings will absorb the shuttle more, giving you less control. The sweet spot is bigger, so if you don’t time the shuttle really well on every shot the string will be more forgiving. This will mean you can hit the shuttle cleanly more often with less miss hits. There will be a reduced risk of breaking strings if you don’t manage to hit the shuttle consistently in the sweet spot. It goes without saying that your strings will last a lot longer the more you decrease your tension!
