D216 & D217: How New Durian Varieties Get Made

Two new durian varieties have recently been registered as D216 and D217 with the Malaysian Agricultural Department, adding to the list of official durian cultivars of Malaysia.
Today we talk with Eric at Hin Bee Orchard, located at the foot of Jerai Mountain in Gurun, Kedah, taste his new D216 & D217 (also known as Jack Sparrow and Jerai) and talk with Eric about what it means to get your durians registered and what the process looks like.

IMO there is no point to register a variety that all fruits less than 2 kg, no farmers will plant them.

well, what about "personal" size durians? Durians that are a good size for 1 or 2 people to share, and so the price isn't too expensive for 1 whole durian? If the durian is too big not everybody wants to eat that much in one sitting, or spend that much money on one sitting 😁

no one knows I think, but maybe Kun Poh on Penang Island
