There is a short story that was released in 1994 from the lion king adventure series spin offs, titled “a tale of two brothers” which I think this film could be partially based on because in this book, Rafiki is telling a story to Simbas child about Taka (scar) and Mufasa’s upbringing. There are 6 books (6 new adventures) Also in this book explains how Rafiki and zazu become part of the pride and also how Taka gains his scar so we’ll see how it turns out, maybe we will also get a glimpse into their back stories too. Disney are opening up a lion king universe which could also introduce more of the lion king family tree and other parallels.

And in the original 1994 animation, Mufasa and scar are clearly two different breed of lion.
