Great to see an update for this beautiful aircraft

Dear Deutsche Aircraft, please have a chat with Regional Express ("Rex") in Australia. They've got 50 or so Saab 340B's to replace. Would love seeing this on regional routes down under.

Only issue would be REX has already signed a memorandum of understanding with ATR, but it would be cool to see them for sure
@RonLucock10 ай бұрын
@@almostinanambo ATR's would understandably be a low-risk option for the airline. Arguably a higher-risk option for the travelling public due to the higher capacity of the aircraft resulting in reduced frequency or some routes just being deemed unviable for the bigger plane. The fact that they've been flying 80's vintage SF340's all this time kinda shows that REX is not necessarily a leader in implementing the latest fashions.

No chance of long term success I think, maybe some short term. Dornier has a track record of bad management & going Insolvent, in all it's iterations. at least twice. And failed projects (728). And built in Germany. So a premium for that even though the market knows German quality and organisation is a thing of the past.

ATR-42-600 would be the best option. It would have similar range to Saab 340B compared to D328eco.

Flew on an earlier model of the 328 in mid 1990s. Quiet, efficient, and nearly jet speed for route of a few hundred miles. To this day, my favorite turboprop ride.

I think this aircraft will be a big succes! since there is no replacement for alot of airlines that fly or regularly flew types like the Saab 340 or Dash-8-100/200 because of their STOL capabilities. it fills the gap till the larger ATR-42/72.

Nice, but we really need to think about ways to produce enough SAF, the planes are not really a challenge.
@SteffenWernicke4 ай бұрын
The industry has other challenges than SAF. Outside western countries NOBODY cares about that. We fly JET A-1 or TS-1. This is endless available and it is cheap. If your country provides SAF for the price of JET A-1 with the same energy density - we take it!

@SteffenWernicke we can debate the sense or nonsense of actions to reduce CO2 emissions all day. As it's not happening anyway on a global scale, as you say, it feels absurd, true. However, for some countries, it's a good way to diversify energy sources and imports, reducing dependencies to the big producers of fossile. Interestingly enough, the USA leads the fossile production pack even under Biden. Also, countries like Norway are always referred to as examples. But the pay for their BEV infrastructure by fossile exports, they just let others burn the stuff. So I see your point. That's even making the split of global societies worse. The EU will, at some point, ban aircraft flying with fossil to enter EU airspace or land at airports. Then, either other countries comply or themselves block EU aircraft from operating at their airports. Ships as well. It's going to make the world maybe a little less quickly leave this ice age (I seriously doubt that), but it's not going to make it a safer and more pleasant place to live for sure.
@SteffenWernicke4 ай бұрын
@@BlueSideUp If the EU bans, other countries will also ban. On the long run, there will be no EU, no US-hegemon. The world is changing and that is unstoppable. Until I live in the new world, a so called "state of the global south", I can observe from a distance that the western countries are declining. There is no EU regulation in the past, that changed something to good for the middle class as well as small and medium sized businesses. It is completely over regulated, expensive without any level of service and life quality. Especially the industry nation Germsny is in its development already about 20 years behind cities in Russia. The only "liberalism" is for gay, transgender and all other minorities. It is a declining society without any progress in the past 20 years.

It's about the source, where it comes from. And actually SAF has less pollution, even though that's not really noteworthy besides it's one of the reasons why common engines can't use it.
