In this video I remove the old cobblestones and place them back under a slope so it sits flush with the new floor in the new barn.

You did a great job on that! When listening to the change in sound when you hammered the stakes in, the base is quite solid.

It turned out wonderful! You should be proud of your work! Your sand and cement mixture is essentially what we call "Flowable Fill" (if you mix it in a cement mixer with water).

Thanks for the comments, thanks for explanation Flowable Fill ... I learned something new
@gregorymacneil28366 ай бұрын
@@D3Sshooter Flowable fill is often used for work where you do not want to use a plate compactor - lots of cities use it to fill in utility trenches under roads because it can be made soupy enough to fill all voids and apply even compaction. If you are interested I will send you a simple formula for mixing?

Clean job! I didn't known that stabilized sand thing, even more used dry like that. Interesting. Thank you.

Beautiful work Steve. You are right if you removed more stones at the end you would remake all of them . I believe the those stones "must" be uneven it gives something.

Very nice job. I’ve never seen how cobble stones were done. When it rains does the water help stabilize the cement.

Thanks for the comments, indeed it makes it bonds and allows water to pass through

Great job! Seeing your movie I thought you have to water it at the end. Interesting to see that this seems do be not necessary.

Hi Steve! Your stone work is amazing! You should have made our village sqare it´s made of round stones, so uneven to walk on our in my case drive my electric wheelchair. I hope You soon get time for Old Rusty. Do You still have the old Peugeot? Thank You for all nice videos.

I think it looks great. The original cobblestones were simply placed in dirt. Good drainage and easily able to reconfigure. Dirt is also (usually) free. Why use sand and cement? Were you afraid of it shifting/sinking?
@5thgearouttahere6 ай бұрын
Sand and a little cement are cheap enough spread over next 50 years. Difficult to not have the stones settle without cement when Steve is driving big tractors over them. Without cement the only thing holding cobblestones in place is its neighbour, one moves then another and over time they will be uneven vertically and displacing one another.

Clayish soil is difficult for laying these stones, sand is much much easier. Riversand is squarish instead of rounded beach sand, so it really grips tight but drains very well, even with a bit of cement mixed in. Stabilized sand drains much better than clay soil
@D3Sshooter6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comments, it is common to place them in a bed of sand. for reasons of watering

looking great! Isn't the mix of sand and cement likely to leave some sort of white staines after some time when it rains?
@D3Sshooter6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comments, no stains as the cobble stones are very hard and not porous . It rubs off easily
