The only time I’ve ever seen a big cat get close to maxing out power when pulling was a d8 2u ripping an uprooted 130ft Douglas fir out of a gully. The rootball stuffed into the bank and the cats winch had so much power it not only ripped the tree through the side of the bank but started to lift the trees top back up off the ground from the force. The motor lugged down to a few hundred rpm but never stalled, possibly one of the most unique sounds one could hear. Awesome video!!!!

@@1-Wheel-DriveActually, depending on regions, either sled or sledge can be used. But if we want to be pedantic, a sledge is typically larger than a sled for pulling larger loads over snow or rough terrain, whereas a sled is usually smaller. These terms can also be used interchangeably too, however.

I work on these, the newer ones may be more fuel efficient, but are way more problematic. There’s a reason the US military uses 1970’s era D7’s. They aren’t really working until they start black stacking, they are completely mechanical and almost impervious to EMP attacks. That’s how you know it’s producing power. The new ones, if they start black stacking the engine is on the verge of GONE, and I’ve seen new cats turned into a $1 million dollar paper weight with a lightning strike.
