The final drives don't lubricate themselves in reverse in old machines. That's why most of the old operators would just turn around and go the other direction. They never backed long distances.

You must be thinking of the competition! You know? The ones you don’t see around because they all broke or wore out!🤣🤣

Older cats reverse gears were not heat treated. They always ran in gear lube no matter direction.

Not oiled in reverse? That's BS. You can back these for miles in reverse with no damage. Know your final drives buddy, they are splash lubricated and full of oil. The reason they turn 180° is so they don't lose productivity by backing up.

There is an oil pump in D8 final drives that only works while the machine is travelling forward the pump does not work in reverse

Not too good to back those old dozers up a long way. The the final drives aren't oiled in reverse on the old machines. Good work with an old cable machine.
