surabaya maybe can be called largest city for the Indonesia Navy, it is the center for the naval command. you can see the massive landmarks "Jalesveva Jayamahe" monument on the naval base in Surabaya. even the airports in indonesia are commonly made from expanded airforce base, but Juanda airport (known for the air hub for Surabaya) is belong to the Naval Air Base.

Awesome video :) Nice submarine. We had 12 Submarines given by Kruschev to regain Papua from Dutch. Back the in the 50's and 60's President Sukarno and Kruschev were buddies. The GBK stadium where you watched the football match is also given by USSR in a bilateral cooperation. If you pay attention to the GBK stadium, it looks like a Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Enjoy your stay there even tough the temperature is very hot even for Indonesians lol :)

I used to work in this city for about 2.5 years. The cost of living there was pretty low. Even though their way of speaking sounds a bit harsh, they're actually kind and friendly, just like most Javanese people.

You may not realize, but the fight in Surabaya was for the independence from the Dutch, but the fight in Surabaya in November 1945 was with the British Troop, Soo very different reception that the troops received from Malaysia and Singapore where they received as heroes but in Surabaya they were received with a fight from the local. The car that you showed was a blown-up car that kill General Malaby, He was a British general. I hope you still enjoy the Surabaya's History.

The tricycle thing is called "becak". Until the 80's there's maybe a million becak all over Indonesia. That was a popular form transportation at that time. Now it's mainly for a tourism attraction and for ones who wants to walking down a memory lane. 😊

I'm living in surabaya more than half of my life and although i always interested in learning the history of my very city, i never got the chance to go inside the most important landmark in this city which is the Mahapahit hotel so thank you for showing us and appreciating the interesting history of it. What's interesting is after independence : the brits, due to their alliance to the dutch, invaded Surabaya and ended one year later (1946). Glad we're at peace now. Countless of indonesia students studies at UK every year and it's one of the fav destination for college studies and i hope more of your countrymen travel to Indonesia!

Surabaya , It certainly has it's quirky structures in strange places. The plane and the submarine are wild. Not to mention, the food .We have seen it with my brother. By the way, there is a Soviet submarine B-39 that sits on display at the Maritime Museum in San Diego. We toured the inside of it. It looked like you were melting in the hot sun. The history of Surabaya should be especially intriguing for someone from the UK 😁 Initially, the people of Surabaya weren’t fighting the Dutch-they were up against the British, who brought the British Indian Army to reclaim Indonesia for the Dutch, as the Dutch were too weakened after World War II to act alone. Essentially, colonized Indians were sent to fight colonized Indonesians-quite a setup, right? That’s colonialism for you! 🇬🇧 🤝 🇳🇱 The car you photographed is a replica of the one carrying Brigadier Mallaby, a British officer killed in the Battle of Surabaya. History comes alive!

Well, that submarine's periscope was functional until around 2010. You could see the outside from that periscope. However, around 2011 or 2012, that telescope was damaged, perhaps by weather, or by visitor's misuse. After some renovations later, that periscope was ceased to function.

I am excited to wait for your videos in Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen. I bet you will visit Tumpak Sewu waterfall in Lumajang. Since you visit the area during rainy season the chance is 50-50 that you get a fine weather. Some tourists are disappointed to have the view blocked by thick clouds in the viewing point. The icon of Surabaya city is Shark and Crocodile, actually can be traced from the meaning of Surabaya word itself from Javanese language, "Sura" (Cura) means shark-like fish, and "Baya" that means Crocodile (Buaya - Indonesian). But the actual origin of "Surabaya" name still debatable, some says that it might refer to the Javanese word of "Surau" which means "at the tip of-" or "against" and "Bhaya" that has meaning of "danger" (Bahaya - Indonesian), which can means "at the tip of danger" or "against danger" - which eventually "survives". Nevertheless, the icon of shark and crocodile itself originated from the folk story of the fight between two creatures that arose circa 13th century among the Javanese people at the time, hence the iconic representation of the fight between those 2 creatures, aligns with the historical of Surabaya as the city of heroes when fighting to obtain independence from colonialism.

And Persebaya Surabaya is a rival of Persib Bandung...hehe...Persebaya is Green and Persib is Blue. Maybe you can seeing Persebaya bigmatch in Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium. This city have a fanatic football supporter.They called BONEK. So... What your next destination? If you want going to Bali Island,maybe you can flight with Airplane from Juanda Airport to Ngurah Rai Airport and if you want to going with train you can visit Gubeng Railway Station to Ketapang Railway Station in Banyuwangi City,and accross sea name Selat Bali making Ferry Boat. Or maybe u can choosen tranportation bus from Bungurasih (Purabaya Bus Station) to Mengwi (Bali Bus Station).
