The mountain redbelly dace is GORGEOUS. The males during the spawning season take on a vibrant red, black, white & yellow which is incredible to see as they school together. 1:17 this one sort of resembles it actually, they’re pretty similar to whichever dace species is on screen here.

The only reference to the dace I've ever heard took this form: he ate the starfish and the garfish, and the plaice and the dace, and the crab and the dab, etc etc.

I call them throat farters (lol) They are bait stealers where I live during trout season. From what I understand they love to be in groups, and hang out in the shade. (under tree overhangs and the like)

Mushroom tongued salamanders, slender salamanders or like char or whitefish or grayling might be cool

When we were kids we would catch these out of the stream thinking they were babies and that they would grow into giant fish but they always died 😳
