Nice video, thanks. I had already done one but also replaced the lower chain for the oil pump. You have to remove the sump and oil pump so you can have enough room to get the lower chain off. Some points best to lubricate the chain when fitting also click the tensioner up by hand a bit. I did not remove the rocker cover like yourself but I have seen others do it. ...mine leaked after a couple of months I did not use best silicone so that's the cover off again to reseal.

Sorry about the video not being fully informative. Tension does not need adjustments. It adjusts by itself once you remove the pin.

Im in the middle of this exact job - when removing the old tensioner there was no gasket - when i opened the new tensioner in the kit there was no gasket either - did you fit the new tensioner with or without a gasket as there is an oil line feeding into the tensioner from the block - after fitting everything and pulling the pin making the chain tight i manually cranked for a while - oil in the oil pump started flowing and oil started coming from the tensioner - im wondering if this oil is hydraulic of just lubracating the tensioner inside parts - cheers
@fenorcity Жыл бұрын
just to add - when i got the timing cover plate off I was expecting to find worn out chain guides like you did here - but my chain guides were in good condition , little wear - but what i did find was that the chain tensioner looks like it stopped extending - there was bout inch and half gap between tensioner piston and chain guide ....... causing chain to be loose - and when i swing chain guide to tensioner and they hit it made metalic sound , same sound i was having from the engine when it was running - failing guides from wear and failing tensioners on same engine = reason so many complaints about this engine

Two little questions please, on others creepy videos 😂, i saw they drope the top carter, is it useless please? And have i to drope the 3 sparks and plug? Thanks

Hi. You don't need to remove the top cover. If you want have more control of the camshafts for not go out of alignment you can remove the top cover and lock the camshafts with a vise plyers. That way they will not move. Its a easy job. Take your time. Following my video you will be fine. U don't need to remove the sparks plugs. But is easy to rotate the engine with them out. Thanks 😊

Hello, I have the same car and also 0.9tce engine. My timingchain after chain rattle when reving above 3000rpm has been replaced including oil pump, but ever since the car is shaking a lot when driving. The mechanic told that when he was starting the car in the morning before, the engine turned over but did not go forward or backwards. He did a compression test: Cylinder 2 compression is 7.0 bar and Cylinder 1 and 3 has 12.0 bar. When looking with a camera inside the engine, you can see a little valve mark on the pistons. When performing a leak test, you don't hear air escaping. Is it okay to drive the car in this condition? Or do I need a new or used Cylinder head? Please advise and thanks for helping! Or could the compression loss come fromd something else, like bent piston? Check engine light only flashed like 4 times. Did not stay on. There was a fault: P0300. The mechanic said with the Bosch scanner it was multiple misfire cylinder 2
@axores202 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for checking my videos 😊. Did the car run ok before timing chain done? Forget about rattles i mean power wise?
@axores202 жыл бұрын
For what you saying the mechanic did something wrong. If the car drove to his garage fine and was rattle only above 3000 rpm i would say he did something wrong. Perhaps timing the engine wrong to start with? This car i was working on was worst than yours for what you did described, and when i remove the cover the chain went out of timing. I manage put put and the car running perfect. I believe he did something wrong to start with my friend

@@axores20What can I do to fix this problem. Do you think about new valves or new cylinder head + head gasket?
@axores202 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyvdpijll2927 well if they are really bent then yes. Head needs to come off and have them replace surface the head and fit with new headgasket. But we dont know if this mechanic did put the car out of timing. Even if is like he says the engine didn't turn over, don't believe the starter will bent the valves, unless he was trying to many times or push the car to start. He never will tell you the truth. But car was at his garage therefore is his responsibility.

No worse than a cambelt change, the chain guides will never get past 100,000 miles just like a cambelt will not. Changing the guides early may be a cheap fix than waiting for them to fail and then buying a chain too. Must be a cam lock device out there for a 90 TCE? Just looked at a timing chain kit - £105 - I would change the lot............

Hi. Yes i got one. But i normally use the arrow points as reference. I did change all the original kit from Renault. The car has high mileage so it did last a long time actually.

These engines are garbage...they have what Renault calls DLC on the bores ..Diamond Like Coating.....this coating wears off around 90k miles..usually when the warranty is just out ..once the cross hatch is gone no more compression ...there a throw away engine...

@louisviljoen28826 ай бұрын
Nonsense. These engines can do 600 000 miles if you maintain it well. Oil should be changed every 5000 to 6000 miles.
@OmniSlots_ZA2 жыл бұрын
That buldge is called a bulb, it used when the car completely runs out of fuel , you need to pump that a few times to release vapor lol....the engine is crap and there's lack of a quiet drive, bad engine design, bad performer on steep hills, can barely challenge morning highway traffic rush, without the turbo this car is useless.
@axores202 жыл бұрын
That is the pipe from air-conditioning. Nothing to do with the fuel. The pipe has a leak inside. That's why is like this. Her Aircon don't work anyway so she does have a leak somewhere inside of that pipe. That system you talking about is more used at diesel engines which has no fuel pump in the tank. Petrol always have a fuel pump inside the tank, therefore you wont need that valve to push fuel up. 🙂
@axores202 жыл бұрын
And one thing we both agree, not a good design this engine. I did 2 more timing chain after this one. They easy to do. Last one has 56k on the clock, tensioner did fail. So low mileage for this to happen.
@OmniSlots_ZA2 жыл бұрын
@@axores20 Thanks for correcting me, I own the stepway cross, I've owned it for 2 years and I drive it at 2000rpm all the time but the chain has started making noise like it's a diesel engine, it's frustrating .
